Just wondered who on K9 brushes their dogs teeth? I have tried brushing Megan's but it is really awkward and her gums bleed every time I do it :( I bought a baby tooth brush as well so it's not too harsh but they still bleed :- Does anyone else's dogs gums bleed?

Just wondered what the easiest way to brush them is ? I usually sit behind her but she just keeps sticking her tongue out whilst I brush them and tries to either shake her head or purposely tilt her head to the side

I have just heard of a new product called Dentagen and you put it into their water and it's meant to prevent the plaque from sticking to the teeth. They also do chews, though at around £7-£8 for a pack of nine they are not cheap!!!

to your butchers and get her a nice bone.....does the trick for gypsy's tootypegs

Mine have bones but your vet should be able to supply you with a sort of rubber finger stall type thing which has a rough side on it specially for rubbing their teeth. Don't use human toothpaste tho', it has alot of abrasive substance in it which gradually destroys the enamel. Dogs don't need it

I have been using the Dorwest Herbs Roast dinner toothpaste. She is going in for a scale and polish in October. Her front teeth have a lot of plaque on them. I have tried Fragaria but it doesn't seem to be working :( She won't chew bones!! She will how ever chew these Greenies :- Of course that's not much good for her front teeth. Her food is mainly Royal Canin biscuits as well. Though I buy her a slice of Roast beef nearly everyday from Tescos Deli counter :-

the reason they say not to use human toothpaste is because they dont sell it! how can they say its more abrasive, we use it and dogs teeth are a lot stronger than humans

The reason you shouldn't use human toothpaste is not to do with abrasives, its because it is not designed to be swallowed, and dogs don't know how to rinse and spit!!

That isn't information from a vet, it's information from a Consultant Dental Surgeon! Our teeth would be alot stronger if our diet was better and we didn't use commercially manufactured products to clean teeth/rinse mouth etc :(

Better to use ordinary water to clean your teeth with ......... same as your skin!! (that's from a Consultant Dermatologist  )

You may not smell pretty but it's kinder for what nature gave you :D
