I've been doing some searching for possible stud dogs studying websites from near and far. I admit a picture is never as good as seeing a dog in the flesh, but you have to start somewhere.

In looking at dogs, I feel that toplines are not as smooth as I would like. In particular, I am noticing a pronounced dip behind the withers. One or two dogs I would say could be due to incorrect shoulder placement, but it is more and more common.

I do understand about the anticlinal in the spine and how in some dogs this is pronounced, but I'm seeing a dip a little higher so the outline is not flowing and smooth to my eye. I don't see it in my dogs and because of that, don't want to introduce it.

I'm wondering if the withers are too high and if this could be the cause. I'm not seeing any short necks though. If I'm off the mark, I'll bow to those more experienced, but I would be interested in listers thoughts and opinions.

Can you post some photos of the dogs you have been studying?

Perhaps not a good idea to post the whole pic if we are going to be discussing faults/things we don't like. Perhaps the photo could be cropped to just the body of the dog (or even just the topline?) - would make it difficult to know who the dog is then and stop any negative responses (on and off the board) from people who may be easily offended.

good point Lana...i wasn't thinking  or was just thinking positively

i think Wendy's pics look like they keep the identity well enough obscured :)

yes I'd say that would keep us safe enough. :D

Be very carefull folks you are entering a minefield.

This is not going to go down well if you put a photo of any part of a dog and you havent got the owners permission, and discussing faults.

O.K,lets all be brave & put our own dogs on,i'll post some pics later.

I do, & I know a lot of others in Oz stand their dogs well over themselves in front. I see, & use the pics that Jax put up of the 3 Counties Show, that some let their dogs lean back. Each to their own, but could this play a part in top-lines being out of focus?

I think the topline of the dog in the second picture falls away a bit too much for me :- " I like the topline of the 3rd ..... Oh god, I've stuck my neck out!! I'll duck now ;)
