Hi,

She is in the vets today as she has torn her cruciate ligament (did it Friday), she is getting xrayed and they will operate either today or tomorrow. I am worried sick about her. Has anyone else's dog had this injury and if so how long did it take to get back to normal? The vet said no exercise for eight weeks so yesterday we went for a walk and my husband and myself took turns carrying her! She was sitting at the back dog barking to go out so we had too. We got some strange looks though!!

Sorry I don't have any experience with this but hope your doglet recovers soon. Perhaps you could keep her occupied with indoor clicker training or something until she recovers.

Very best wishes & doggy kisses from Lupin & Zephyr.

Hi,

Inca had the same problem. She had 8 weeks of absolutly no exersize and then she had to be built up gently for about 4 weeks after that.

for the first week just half an hour lead walk a day, second week just half an hour lead walk with 15 mins off the lead, third week half an hour lead walk with half an hour off the lead and so on but using a bit of comen sense if they limp or carry the leg to stop and start again the next day but for a shorter time.

I also used arnica tablets, which helped to speed up the recovery time from the surgery.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I heard from the vet that the surgery went well, but she is being kept in over night. The house is so empty, my husband and myself really miss her even if it is only one night!! I will take things very easy with her.
