We know that this is a whippet forum but perhaps you could spread the word about this lovely boy for us. We have posted his story on 2 GSD forums, but we know that lots of you like Shepherds too!

We have just brought Nelson, an 18 month old male GSD, home from the lovely couple who purchased him from us as a puppy.

Last weekend their youngest son (age 2) almost drowned in an old slurry tank on their neighbour's farm - all this week they have been at the hospital with him and his older brother (age 6) who had jumped in to rescue him, held him up as long as he could but who almost drowned himself.

The youngest boy was blue and limp when they reached him and they performed CPR whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive. He has undergone all sorts of tests this week, including brain scans etc and thankfully he's fine!

Anyway, they are understandably in a state of shock and under extreme stress at the moment and have asked us to take Nelson. We don't think that they are thinking clearly because they want rehome all of their animals - pigs, ponies, chickens, sheep, cats & of course, Nelson.

We can't keep him permanently but we have offered them 14 days to make a final decision about completely parting with him for good.

So guys, this is a heads up for you.

Nelson is as we have said, 18 months old. He is a big boy but a soft natured boy. He has been brought up in the country with a lovely family - 4 young children - dad is a police officer (and mum was a police officer before the children!).

If they do decide that they really can't take him back, we need to find him a lovely forever home. He is KC reg & microchipped (and vaccinated up to date we believe). We have left paperwork/vac certificates with them for now.

Money not important BUT we would want something to ensure he does go to the right home and that it is permanent.

We think he would work - obedience/working trials - but he would need guidance! Good traveller, fine on the lead etc

Currently kennelled with one of our bitches and apart from being a bit unsettled tonight, fine in the kennel (he has stayed with us a couple of times before on his holidays)

So if you think you can help if it becomes necessary, or you know someone who could please get in touch.

We will keep you updated.
