I've had a really horrible week of exercising my dogs this week, i'm so annoyed  Every morning after i've dropped my son off at school i go for a good hours cycling with my 3 dogs running loose with me. Mine are all totally under control and we pass most dogs fine, mine ignoring any passing dogs as they are usually too busy looking for squirrels or ducks! Anyway on monday i passed a woman with 2 dogs, she tried to get the large dog to come to her (which it totally ignored her) so i made sure my 3 were on the far side of me with my bike between us and this dog just incase. Then the smaller terrier XB shot right in front of me, nearly causing me to fall off my bike and went mad, snapping and chasing Gucci. Luckilly she out paced it but eventually gave in and turned round when this dog leaped on her and started biting at her  Luckilly she had her coat on as this dog ripped it. Meanwhile it's owner just stands there pathetically calling her dog, i was trying to get hold of this dog but couldn't. Anyway when it attacked Gucci i ran my bike into it making it yelp and it ran back to it's owner, tail between it's legs (sorry if this sounds harsh but there was no way my Gucci was being hurt by this dog) The owner just carried on her walk!!! I can't repeat what i shouted at this useless woman (it involved lots of stars********) she didn't even ask if Gucci was ok.

The next day i passed a small car park with a couple by their car. As i passed them they opened their boot and their 2 Lurchers shot out and chased me up the lane , snapping and growling! Again i turned my bike between my dogs and theirs and shouted at them, thankfully they turned back as my Woody would have seen them off, possibly causing a dog fight? Who knows, anyway no apology from their owners :( all they shouted to me was "they are friendly"!!!!

Next walk, i am heading towards a couple with a group of dogs, their Staffie crouched low and started stalking my dogs so i thought "not bloody again" I stopped my bike and got mine to the side of me, expecting these owners to get some sort of control over theirs, but oh no they carried on chatting. This Staffie charged at us again singling out Gucci who ran off scared with the Staff in hot pursuit. Then their other dogs joined in the chase. Gucci was obviously very distressed so i asked the owners to call their Staffie off, all they said was (can you guess!) "don't worry it's friendly!!!" i said i don't give a **** it's scaring my dog, so they tried in vain to call it back to them so in the end i called Gucci who ran to me and leaped into my arms, the Staff tried to jump up as Woody bit it so it ran away (good old Woody)

That same walk as i passed some fishermen , their mongrel shot out their tent and chased us and to top it all today i passed a GSD which i know to be dodgy so i got my dogs again to my side and shouted to the owners to put their dog on a lead, they tried but again their dog ignored them and ran aggressively towards my dogs, i had to shout at it to make it back off

I'm sorry to waffle on but i am sick to death of people who let their dogs off and yet have no control at all over what their dogs do, nor seem concerned for scaring my well behaved dogs. Gucci and Lulu have not been themselves since all this has happened, and are now scared of passing dogs on the tracks etc, Woody doesn't seem to mind as he is fearless of all dogs. So if you're reading this please make sure your dog/s are under your control and come to you when you call them instantly, if they don't then don't let them off their lead til you have trained them better as i personally DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE FRIENDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have the same problem around here Gina. My three always stay near me and I make sure that if we see another dog that they are called to heel. Nine times out of ten the other peoples dogs come running towards mine and no matter what the owners always yell "THEY'RE FRIENDLY!" even though they are snapping at my dogs. Very annoying.

Gorgeous pic of the dogs. (w00t)

i think its getting very dangerous out there these days, too many idiots with dogs they cant control off the leash and too many would be gangstas with pit bull/staffys that they think make them look hard.(idiots!)if i had a penny for every time ive seen a dog off the lead and the owner is sauntering away saying oh its ok he wont bite,(how the hell does he know it wont bite?) as im struggling to try to keep my dogs safe. :(

I used to have problems like this the last year or so that we lived in Norfolk :( I'm very glad to say that since moving to rural Scotland we hardly see anyone on our walks. Glad that none of your dogs was injured

Lovely photo :huggles:

Ours all 4 whippets walked together on the lead will go for any dog!

walk 2 together and they are OK... perhaps it's just the pack instinct?

Although 1 of ours can be aggressive to other dogs, and if they are off the lead and come right up to the dog he will go for it.... They are almost always kept on the lead... In fact the other day my OH was walking them all together, a loose dog came up to them, my OH called to owner telling them that if they did not put their dog on the lead ours would attack it... the chap just laughted, let his dog carry on approaching ours......... they went for it, grabbing it by the throat, and the dog owner told my husband he was a f**ing W**ker and our dogs should be muzzled.... He was warned!!!! they did not do any damage to the dog, thank god!

I watched the dog training programme the other night about the dogs who went for everything, and just wondered if anyone else had tried her approach of rewarding when the dogs ignored others dogs on their walk?????

Be interesting to know!

that programme was amazing how she got that dog to behave so well.

Thought the bloke was putting some of it on though :- "

And they had spent £54,000 on there dogs in how long 4 yrs (w00t)

You have hhad a bad week!!

We have similar problems - my gh's stay on the lead because they ave no recall (I am trying to teach them). We still get approached by dogs off the lead that "have a go" - snarling etc, my boys get terrified.

As for staffies - I hate them (sorry any staffy owners on here), in the nine months I've had my boys, we have been attacked 4 times by staffies and everytime the owner says they are friendly

 Forgot to add this pic of Max and Tiny with my OH P1010140_edited1.JPG

:( we're not all brainless, bullying morons :( i've had awful encounters because of daring to own staffords. one woman with a collie type x would not call it to heel, it was off the lead, and though mine are ok, i still restained them. i asked her to put hers on a lead, and i got told that i shouldnt even take my dogs out at all. as they are a disgusting, dangerous breed that has no right to exist  as her dog was the one with selective deafness, was the one running amok, and as she was the owner acting aggressively and foul mouthed, HMMMMM! amber is trained to respond to vocal commands as well as body language, and listens (w00t)

Unfortunately yet again today my lot chased a German Shepherd who is the sweetest dog alive. Unfortunately we met coming around the only blind spot in the field. It is most embarrasing. The whippet and lurcher just want to say hello :) the Iggies want to bite it :(

At the same time I put mine straight on leads if I see any other dogs approaching but the other dog owners seem oblivious to the fact that their dogs are approaching mine hackles raised and that mine are returning the compliment.

I see people walking dogs carrying a walking stick and I know why now.

The trouble with Iggies are that they are all mouth but if anything turns they run screaming which excites the other dog and trhat is my biggest fear.

I have to plan my walks with precision to avoid aoll other walkers. I get quite miffed if anyopne else is walking at my 'time' :D

Im with you on this one Lalena. It infuriates me that people presume that because you have a certain type of breed it's okay for there dog to have a go! My mum's Staffie, Molly has been attacked god knows how many times by various other breeds. Poor thing just stands there and takes it!

My Dobermann Chloe was seriously attacked by two Norfolk Terriers. She was badly bitten and required veterinary attention. Their owner just stood there and wouldn't do a thing. Chloe is so submissive she just cried and cried and wouldn't do anything to help herself. She has NEVER shown any aggression to another dog. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time and its a wonder my son didn't arrive early!! Chloe was pouring with blood but the terriers owner thought it was somewhat acceptable because she was a Dobe!

If you can't control your dog, it shouldn't be off the lead when there's others about. Regardless of breed.

mine too! cant train shibas to recall despite all the training ive done with dobies over the years.as someone once said to me shibas are like a 2 year old on crack cocaine! (w00t)

Ok, I'm not sure if I've got the wrong end of the stick so to speak, but I did say sorry to any staffy owners before I commented, and I was only commenting about the ones we've met, I have known some very nice staffies.

Sorry if I caused any offence.

Don't people like that annoy you.

Be interesting to know!

I use treats and tell my dogs to focus on me when the local dogs are charging at their gates telling my lot that they are going to rip out their throats. As a result because my dogs don't respond the other dogs give up quickly.

Because so many collies around here are running loose onto the roads guarding their property many of my dogs simply hate them. Well okay Tally deerhound and Woody whippet do. :(

I trained Woody to walk on the other side of me (me between him and approaching dogs) if he see's a dog that he's scared of. Worked great until we came across an out of control Irish Setter. Strong dog / doddery owner get the picture. The Irish grabbed Woody on his back and picked him up. Woody was on the lead the Irish wasn't. At that point I let Poppy (deerhound x lurcher) loose and told her to get him. She drove the dog off. But back he came and I had to grab him and stop him from attacking my dogs further.

years ago i was walking one of my dobie bitches in the park on the lead (she was a beggar with other dogs so i never let her off the lead in public places)when she was attacked by 2 yorkshire terriers! yep! though i've met some lovely small dogs, i've noticed many are little monsters  but i blame the owners! its the ones who put the dogs on a pedastal that cause problems, you know the type :x

What suprised me was the fact that they didn't realise that they'd spent that much and they didn't really seem that suprised (w00t)

I must admit that I am a useless owner where Molly is concered as she would run up to any dog and not take a blind bit of notice of me trying to call her back, but I only have her off lead when there are no other dogs and if we see one I put her back on the lead until she has 'met' it properly. Then they all have a mad chase :clown:

Does anyone have any tips?? Lenny will come back when called so I must be doing something right!!
