Hi, Has anybody out there got any remedies or ideas on how to prevent or cure travel sickness? :(

At the moment we have a 5mth old pup who is absoloutely atrocious in the car,as soon as you put her in her crate she starts drooling........badly!! :( we have bred her so she has been in the car from a very young age,& we have tried putting her in the car when it is sitting in the drive but she still drools, she goes to ringcraft with her brother(who is fine) twice a week & also to the beach about a mile away nearly every day but is still the same actually at the ringcraft because it is a fair bit away she is sick everywhere so has to have 2 sealegs tablets before we go,this stops her being sick but not the drooling,we actually have to put him in a different crate because by the time we get to the classes he is drenched from her drool :x

We have neverhad this problem before as all our other dogs love the car (w00t)

I am still holding on to the faint hope that she might grow out of this  but I am beginning to wonderasshe is getting no better :(

If anyone can help it would be appreciated :D As we are now getting to the end of our tether........we have tried virtually everything, from the usual things down to the downright ridiculous :teehee: but to no avail.

Please help as were are going to N.E.W.S next month & that's miles away in the car never mind the ferry :x

Also when we get to where we are going she recovers remarkably fast & is really happy :D so it's not affecting her that way

Well your better off than we were then!! Molly was really bad when she was younger, drooling so much that she drenched herself. But she wouldn't 'talk' to us for a couple of hours after the journey had finished (w00t)

We took her on holiday with us to North Wales (about 4 hours from us). On the way there she was terrible but on the way back she was fine, we even left her in the car when we went to the little chef :b (don't worry, it wasn't sunny and we left a window open for her!!). After that she got a lot better, only sick if she'd had a lot to eat beforehand.

Then she suddenly stopped after we bought a new pup as a friend for her when she was just over a year old. Perhaps it was her age or perhaps it was because the new pup didn't drool at all and she suddenly realised that it wasn't that bad

Good luck with your drooler :luck: I bet that she'll grow out of it.

I have very successfully used one of the Doreen Paige products "apprehension of known things" You can order by ringing 01743 860062

What sort of car do you have & does she travel in the back? This can often be the cause of travel sickness as it is far more bouncy than say in the middle of the car. I know cos i tried it out  (& before any of you start,i was on my own, travelling a short distance to test out what it was like for a dog to travel in the back!!! ;) )

It is also a good idea to put a cosy bed in the cage,as this will make it more secure for her,& she won't tense up so much trying to balance herself.

You can now buy a dap deffuser spray which is calming, just squirt some in the car before travelling.

I have also found that it's better to give them a small meal an hour before travelling, then if they are sick,at least they're bringing up a solid dollop rather than a revolting watery mess that spreads all over :x & it seems to help with the drooling problem!

We have a Mondeo estate with cages fitted into the boot & yes she has a thick duvet bed,a blanket,a flannelette sheet & then this is topped off with two puppy pads to absorb the sick/drool all the stuff ie:balnkets & sheet are there as it's alot easier to wash them than just putting her straight on the bed & having to wash the duvet. with regards to feeding her before, if we do she brings her food up first & then goes on to bring up the foul watery mess anyway..........she can actually be sick if we don't give her any tablets 5 or 6 times on one short journey,it's really awful.Ihave tried rescue remedy with her Mum when she is showing as she was late to it & got very tense & nervous, that seemed to work there.do you think it might work with Teazel (the pup) If not I will try the Doreen Paige product I've heard her stuff is excellent!!
