Hi All,

My friend is having alot of problems with her new dog's breeder, she bought a king charles spaniel 5 months ago for £450, she got KC papers with him but no pedigree as the breeder said her PC wasn't working and that she would post it to her,

the breeder lives quite a long way off and my friend doesn't drive, it's not going to be possible to get there very often, she has been down to the breeders house 4 weeks ago and she wasn't in, she has phoned loads of times and this breeder just makes excusses, the latest one was that she's just gone through a messy divorce, and promised to post the pedigree, (this was 3 weeks ago)

I was looking at the KC paper and noticed that there wasn't NO pedigree name on it, it just says 'Jacob's Creek Chris', she told my friend when she went to pick him up that she's named all the pup's after bottles of wine, with the KC paper having no official name on it does this mean 'Odie' (friends pup) is not pedigree?

what could she do to get his pedigree?, is there a way of getting it off the kennel club herself?

she's planning to show/stud/breed Odie in the future but can she do this without a pedigree?

will pass on all the info, as she's getting quite worried now, thanks ;)

Isn't jacobs Creek Joy his KC name?

By Pedigree name do u mean affix of the breeder? If so maybe the lady doesnt have one.

The sire and Dam should be on his KC papers so the pedigree would be easy to compile. If your friend wants an official one she can phone the KC who will have a registration number for the pup (which will be on the papers she has) and for a fee they will send her one.

Is the pup registered with the Kennel Club - what exactly is the 'kennel club piece of paper' that she has. Just because it doesn't have an affix doens't meant that's not a registered name - that very well may be.

Has she transferred ownership - the bottom half of the form needs to be signed by the breeder and your friend needs to have filled out her details in order to register it in your friend's name.

She could very well be able to get a pedigree from the kennel club. The pedigree really is just a piece of paper with the family tree on it - it's the kennel club registration that she needs in order to show.

Im not exactly an expert (w00t) , but id say this looks pretty bad ! Surely she should def have it by now. If she paid for a ped dog she should def have his pedigree!, I wouldnt be best pleased if it was me

You say he has no pedigree name but ' jacobs creek chris' is name of a wine and if thats on his ped then thats his reg name, or did the breeder say she had an affix? if so, that should be at the front of his name.

I wouldnt think people would be interested in using him as a stud if no pedigree, :( only maybe if he's just a 'pet' and they do have to be KC reg to show, Unless your friend just wants to show at companien show level.

I cant advise as what, if any, steps you can take next as i dont have any experience of this, Maybe people who have bred pups on here could offer advice.

Good luck :luck:

yes Jacob's Creek Chris is his KC name, so maybe this breeder hasn't got an affix pedigree name then, thanks for that, and my friend has sent off the KC paper and got the pup in her name now,

so my friend will still be able to show/stud and so on, without a pedigree?

I don't know about affix's and all that so couldn't advise my friend as to what to do

p.s so you don't need an affix to reg pup's for a KC name as long as the sire and dam are reg too?

Yes your friend will be able to show him so long as she has the KC registration.

Thanks for that Dawn  my friend will be made up now!

when we bought our staffie girl, on the owner reg. certificate which has to be sent off, there was the option to purchase a pedigree (the A1 size is cheaper if bought by the breeder at the time of litter registration) £6 for 3 gen, £6 for 5 gen, £20 for A1 5 gen, which has champions in red. look around to see if there are any databases for your breed. bullhawk has one for staffords, there may be a site out there. as for affixs, these are a kind of brand name for kennels. it costs about £70 to get one, £10-£15 yearly to renew. forms can be downloaded from the kc website and printed offhope that helps!

Most disputes centre around the buyer being given a copy of a pedigree and not getting the KC papers. Like everyone else has said your friend will be able to get a pedigree from the KC, not all breeders supply a copy of the pedigree. Really dont think your friend has a problem here

At least if she gets a copy of the Pedigree from the KC it should all be right ;)

What a shame people have to be like this , its obvious she wont get any help further down the line with her pup too isnt it

Ive heard of a whippet breeder in the Matlock area who has sold a lady a pup that is supposed to be KC reg , but has now got abusive with her when she asked for the papers, and when shes rung the KC apparently this whippet breeder has registered 35 puppies so far this year already (w00t) I have the persons name , but shes no one I have heard of

that's terrible Jax :( I'm glad my friend got the KC reg then

Unfortunately Jax I think I know who you are referring to - has done this to one of my friend's before, all because my friend had two whippets!  All the time people buy from 'breeders'like this they will continue

I'd like to ask a quick question about this too. We bought our pup from a breeder at the beginning of June and were told that the KC papers were at the KC so we could not take them straight away and they would be forwarded to us. Normally I would be suspicious of this but because the breeder has been mentioned here on k9 before (and not in a bad way!) I thought it would be ok. However, we still haven't received the papers. Should we contact the breeder or the KC in this situation??

it really depends when the breeder sent off the papers. what usually happens is that at the time of mating, the stud owner fills in his details etc on the green puppy reg. form, which the owner of the dam sends off shortly after the birth. if this is how it happened, i'd get in touch pronto. however, it could be that the breeder did what i did : pick of the litter in lieu of stud fee, in which case she may not have been given the puppy reg. form until the stud owners had made their selection, or as in my case, taken their selection (my litter was 7 weeks old when we finally got the form) alternatively, she could have sent the forms off, but the kennel club may have trouble with their names (for each pup you are given 2 spaces, 1st & 2nd choice, for the names you wish them registered as.) if any or all of the names chosen have already been taken by other dogs, the kc have to make up other names for this litter, which will cause a delay. hope that helps

I think I may have to ring then because the pups were already 4 months old (so now he is 7months). We saw the father and some brothers and sisters but the breeder had sold the mother(don't know why??). She breeds to show herself so am I right in thinking this will be why she hung onto them for so long as they were unsuitable for showing? Should I contact the breeder, we don't have the pedigree either so if I phone the KC I will not be able to tell them the sire or dam

We only bought for a pet so this is not a problem really, apart from the fact we paid pedigree prices!!

strange to sell the mother  phone up the breeder, asap. the thing is, only the breeder can register the pups, and once they reach 1yr, its just about impossible! if she sent the form off, and no return she can call 0870 241 7305 to ask how long, or find out whether there is a problem with something. did she give a reciept with regards to price and pedigree?
