No they don't come with instructions. They're often advertised as ultrasonic facial massagers and such. They are ultrasonic in nature as I've purchased and tested one in the past from Ebay, however how effective they are is debatable as ultrasonic massagers have variable frequencys (measured in Hz)

Personally I think your best buying from someone in the know or a specialist supplier, it's also worthwhile asking the vet / specialist what settings should be used otherwise your time and efforts could be wasted or in the worst case you could cause permanent damage to your dog. I think the risk of doing this with the ones on ebay is low but the professional high frequency units probably carry a higher risk (but are probably the most effective in treating succesfully for this reason)

:nuke: Always make sure you use a conductive gel, they will burn if you don't and this includes the ones on ebay.

yeh but not so much for muscley injury type stuff. 3-5 mins running along the muscle thats damged and like jac said using the gel. i read that you have to let the injury start to heal itself a few days then start the ultrasound. i done it on Colts gracilis tear and i have to say it def worked. you can get more info on google. he actually got to know when i was getting it out and he lay down and lifted his leg up ! lol

We first bought one of ours from gerry woods near newton aycliffe, weve had it quite a few years now and it still works good cos i recently had to use it for 6 weeks on my little chip and it did wonders sue

Pulled us out the sh*t a few times too Sue, have also used is on myself on a wrist injury with speedy results.

Mine came brand new from ebay after getting the model etc via recommendations from George Drake, has only one frequency and pretty much fool proof, also came with the gel (you can buy this pretty cheap from ebay seperately). It did come with instructions on how to use but obviously different injuries will need varying treatments / time which any specialist will advise you on - i wouldn't treat anything without getting the dog checked out prior anyway.

Bought ours off eBay, it's just a facial until with 2 frequencies high and low, with plenty of Gel on Jessica gets low frequency 3mins twice a day over the scar tissue in her back, followed by a good rub over the area with Trainers Choice watered down and physio and stretches on her back. Advised to keep running her, she's had it for about 5-6 weeks now and been checked over again there's a definate improvement been seen in the condition of her back also shown by her improved performance, still not there yet, about 50% improvement in the scar tissue and it'll never be 100% but we're willing to give her every chance.

I must admit I was skeptical about the use of ultrasound and it's benefits but both my Mum and my sister have in the past had ultrasound and physio treatment on injuries and I have to say it seems to be doing the trick :cheers: .

Would a Mag box not be a better option.A bit expensive,but if i ever get round to building a new shed,then thats one thing i deffo want in it,as u can even get in there yourself,and it doubles up for use,if u have a bitch in season,and need an extra sleeping compartment,away from all others.

Suppose it would depend on the injury and the time limit you want your dog back racing...ultra sound if used correctly is very accurate and heals much faster ...

but as i said depends on the injury

In my very limited research and as far as I am led to believe the "Mag Box" works by stimulating the iron in the blood, encouraging the blood to flow around the system more effectively thereby increasing blood supply and delivery of key nutrients required to healing of a current injury.

The ultrasound is like a deep muscle massage, providing treatment for deep tissue and ligament injuries, it works by sending ultrasonic pulses to a directed location, in Jessica's case this is the scar tissue on her spine, the ultrasound is breaking down the old scar tissue at the same time as increasing the blood flow etc. helping it to heal correctly.

She has the running to stop the scar tissue redeveloping and her back seizing up or shortening further with the redevelopement of scar tissue. :thumbsup:

Slightly off topic but strangely enough Rob (Meeks) mentioned that Jessica had ruptured a hamstring the first time he saw her, wasn't severe but it was enough (there are from what I read about three stages of severity and recovery outcomes for ruptures). I googled to find possible causes of ruptured hamstrings and one of the causes was noted as "bad posture during exercise", a possible link to Jessica's back problem :unsure: , she has been checked since and a ruptured hamstring has not been detected.
