hi had a very distressed lady today urgently needing to rehome an unpredicable choc lab that will bite for no apparent reason.

has bitten the lady quite badly now on 2 occasions, both for no reason , wagging tail one min savage biting the next back to wagging tail 10 mins after???

we have offered to take the dog into the kennels but ladys partner doesnt want her going into kennels.

the dog originally came from rspca approx 2 1/2 yrs ago, they have contacted the RSPCA but they have been told she will have to stay with the family until a place becomes available as no room at min.

the lady is now stuck in her kitchen as dog wont let her pass the hall, she has also gone for 2 of the 3 children in the house.

the RSPCA have also said she hasnt the right to put the dog to sleep as she was adopted from them and must remain there til they can find her a home? is this correct do you think or has the lady maybe misread what they are saying?

the dog has in total bitten friends relatives, children and a person met on a walk, also now the lady , however has never bitten the partner?

i really think there is no hope for this dog but can anyone else shed a light on what to do?

im trying to arrange for her to at least come to ours til something is worked out either way.

many thanks in advance

update

lady just rang back and they have discussed this problem in detail, and also had another chat with the RSPCA and the dog will be pts this evening

thanks anyway , was worth a try

Well done to you Tanya for having a try although from what you posted it did seem something of a lost cause for this poor dog.

Chris

seems like it chris , but the dog has serious issues and sadly this has come to this ending, she is a lovely looking dog but not much comfort when she chases a child to bite it!!, i do think the stem is from her early beginnings and maybe this will highlight just how important a dogs early life can affect its future :(

id posted in the slim hope something might be able to help her but sadly nothing

Sometimes there is nothing we can do however much we want to Tanya :( well done for trying  hope the lady gets over the experience quickly :huggles:

RIP Choc Lab

:( I think it was for the best, you would never forgive yourself if it bit again :(

the attack yesterday ,

lady goes out to pick up child from school, comes back to waggy tail licks and kisses, they then go outside to sit on the garden bench and wham dog flies at her, biting her arm and ragging her, she jumped up and the dog stopped when shouted at then goes again at her thigh , ripping her jeans!! you should see the bruising!!! then gets her paw caught in the frenzy and bites the ladys ankle causing punture wounds. shortly after she went back to the lady asking for cuddles and hugs!!

sat she tried to get through the stair gate to get at the small child too.

today was ok in morn then wouldnt let eldest son of 17 down the stairs and later in day forced the lady to stay in the kitchen.

partner is very upset but what else could possibly be done? she has been for training and vet advice, to no real avail so sadly i think this could be for the best, she bit the middle child whilst he was sitting on the sofa , she went t him to bite, he was no where near her!

i think all avenues has been explored :(

I hate hearing of animals having to be PTS but this really does sound like a very confused, unpredictable dog.

I think in the circumstances there really was no other option for her,it is very sad as we all like to think that no animal is beyond "fixing" but sometimes things don't go to plan and at the end of the day it is a big dog to be behaving like that and there were children involved. :(

R.I.P

It is very very sad all round, but IMO the right thing for all concerned.

Poor dog, and poor family, it isn't an easy decision to make, but it was the responsible thing to do.

The situation sounded awful, and really few options for a dog that is behaving submissive one minute and aggresive the next.

I can't help wondering if the dog might have been ill, a brain tumour could have possibly caused it to act so erratic and unpredictable. :(

these avenues had been explored sadly nothing was apparently wrong with her, even went down the feed route to see if it was a food related aggression disorder?

she is now at peace

just remember the dogs you saved this was the only thing to do for all concerned

its at rest now and at peace

sorry in my eyes if the dog had just gone for one of my kids it would of been dead there and then.
