This is not a 'rude' post.....lol

Is this condition solely a whippet/greyhound problem....?

Our bitch as suffered with this all her life-she is now 7and a half years old.

We have made numerous visits to the vets and tended to her daily/weekly but nothing makes it go away for long.

Antibiotics-improved the problem but again only for a short while...she obviously can't be on antibiotics forever.....

She is very sore under the flaps of skin around her 'parts'- and slightly inside her body.

Anyone else have this problem with their bitches please?

(*going to try apple cider vinegar...after reading someones post today......)

Hi

I dont know if this will help but have you tried adding a bit of cranberry juice to her drinking water, It really helps with people. When I was nursing the ward I worked on participated in a study into this problem in the elderly and cranberry really made a significant improvement, its something to do with enzymes that are in the fruit ;)

Regards Marie

Hiya-thanks

I've given her dried cranberries to eat-cos she doesn't drink a lot unfortunately.

I've just put her sudocrem on again-she's really good and used to the routine but she's very sore again.

Hydrocortisone cream/ointment used to be ok-but it thins the skin after prolonged use and she's scarred by it/problem.

You can get cranberry tablets now she might take those. If she doesnt drink much will she drink if you put a drop of milk or tea in it. Mine will drink a bowl of mostly water with a drop of milk and sugar in even when they wont drink anything else. Sorry if you'vealready tried these

Boil barley till its soft and drain off the juice give the juices 1/2 cup daily ...this will sort out her problem ...you can add the boiled barley to her food if you like, but tends to put weight on over a long period of time

 Denise-

Done that before-but nothing seems to work long term.....and cures the problem for good-

7 years she's had this problem... :( poor sod.

Gonna give everthing one last go......

cider vinegar

cranberry pills

barley

and if it returns like I'm sure it will maybe surgery is the only option- :x

if you go to the chemist and ask for a bottle of misposit [not sure about the spelling] its for urine infections and cystitis in women.this really good the only problem is that its foul to take might need a syringe to get her to drink some

Had it here once with a bitch. Teaspoon of bread soda in her feed for a while did the trick !

That is excellent advise

Karen, what do you feed her as t could well be due to her diet that she's having this problem.

As Karen said in an earlier post we have tried barley and many other things------ the vets we have been too have treat her with antibiotics and one suggested that she have a operation to alter the shape and folds that were causing the trouble ------

the best it has ever been was when last year we were in Scotland at the Derby and needed the vets due to some poison she picked up the day we set off for Scotland--

and it was all the treatment she had whilst there i think cleared it up-----

but alas its back once more ---and we read that apple cider vinegar might be the answer so we are trying that first----- then we will try martins bread soda see if that helps --thanks to all who have replied ----

every little helps if not us others with similar problems who read this site----

and its far better used for this rather than all the slagging that goes on-and does more to promote a healthier outlook on our sport by those thinking of getting into it ---
