Ex-or soon to be ex hub has just demanded custody of my Dyson DC07, so I find myself, the week before Xmas with 2 kids looking for a new bloody hoover!! Dyson has been great and I am tempted to go for another but they are SO expensive!! Any recommendations gratefully received I know there are lots of competitors now but difficult to know if they still do the job!

...... :( have you heard of Freecycle -it`s great - there`s always people getting rid of them if you can collect -pm if you want details x

Get a Henry made by Numatic. They are the red ones with a smiley face. Lots of suction and much cheaper than a Dyson. You can use them without a bag also.

i never spend loads on my hoovers as i tend to burn them out pretty quick ,i always buy mine from asda my last 2 cost me 29.99 from asda pretty good one to does the job and i have 3 dogs and 2 kids to clean up after

Hi...I have the Hoover upright at the moment and it`s great ! It is the Hoover Vitesse Pet Lover..No dust and good suction. I have five dogs and family and it cleans great without being expensive !!

I'm just about to lay my turquoise Dyson DC07 to rest ..... it really only worked properly for about a year and we've been keeping it limping on for the last 4 years by taking it apart and putting it back together every so often  It lost any form of decent suction ages ago and I wouldn't buy another one. If you want to put mine in as a ringer for yours you're welcome ........ ex hub probably wouldn't know the difference

I'm using my Hoover 1500 now - bag and all :D It works much, much better

I have Dyson's....

My mum has had Dysons too-but swears 'Henrys' are better??????

i have the typhoon with 3 stage hepa filter 1800 watts and under £100, so far very pleased this has lasted 2 years , it is used more than once daily :- " with 12 mutts here and 2 cats what do you expect (w00t) and previous hoovers only lasted 6 mths tops so still pleased

You get what you pay for. I've got a Miele Cat & Dog. Not cheap, but it has lasted me 10 years so far and is still going strong, although the turbo brush has lost some of it's ooomph now :- " . The suction used to be that strong it has almost lifted the carpet

I buy the bags from John Lewis, as they sell the hoovers too.

Miele is a really good make. They do washing machines too. My mum ( :b ) has just bought her 3rd Miele washing machine. Her previous two saw out just over 40 years of service  She says this one will probably last longer than she will
