Venture Drag Coursing Club

(formally Venture Hill Sprinting Club)

And now with the correct spelling :- "

Yesterday we had our meeting at Wickwar and had a good entry of 56 dogs. The weather was kind to us, starting off overcast (a bit chilly for the bipeds but I am sure it was more comfortable for the dogs) and we actually had a few rays of sunshine in the afternoon.

In previous meetings we ran four dog stakes, today however we tried eight dog stakes instead and it seemed to be well received.

We will let you know as soon as possible whether we plan to run our next event on Sunday 6th November as four or eight dog stakes.

We would like to thank everyone that came and hope you and your four legged friends enjoyed the day as much as we did.

The results for the meeting are now posted on the VDCC website.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

what is drag corsin and what sort of dogs do u run (non Ped whippets lurches peds)

Hello Andrew,

currently the VDCC run on a 400 yard straight track that starts off on a slight incline and finishes at the top of a hill.

The dogs are run in pairs from slips (instead of traps) and they chase a plastic lure dragged up the hill using a pulley.

Most of the entries that we have had to date are pedigree racing Whippets and coursing Whippets, although we have also had a few Lurchers a couple of Bedlingtons and one or two Heinz 57's.

We are open to most breeds of dog as long as they can run from slips, chase a lure and do interfere with the other dog running.

More information can be found a the VDCC website

I hope this helps.

Terry Ward ran his 2 on Sunday ......So I expect non ped's would be very welcome

Andrew, I went to watch a few months ago, it was well run on a good uphill track, the lure driver kept the lure at a good distance. I might give Tig a run at the next event as I am not running him on the bends again. Might see you there you can run Just friends of Scratch with Tig as we might be the only non peds. Lol.
