Hi I am new to this forum and hope you can help me -

My Black Labrador comes home from his 2 walks a day reeking of sheep poo - he doesnt eat it we are pretty sure of that but of course is not fussy about where he walks! We clean his paws/pads thoroughly after each walk but the smell lingers all day and night and is getting embarrassing when we have visitors as he is a friendly dog and greets each one and we have to keep apologising for him being so smelly.

Cant do much about the sheep field of course and we cant bath him after every walk so I wondered if any one has any good ideas of how to get rid of the pong which is driving us mad! Are there any effective 'dog deodourants' that are recommended?

Thanks in anticipation

Is he rolling in it ? That's the only reason I can think of for him being smelly . If so you will have to stop him or take him somewhere else . You could put grooming spray on him which smells nice but that would be a bit like putting perfume on a smelly person it's not really going to solve the problem .

No he is not rolling in it - we watch him all the time as we don't want him eating it either.

Hello - welcome to Dog Forum - I am Anna :)

What a nightmare - I feel your pain - a smelly dog is rubbish when you have visitors!

My puppy likes to eat horse poo - we have to be on the ball to stop her!

I just googled what you can do to neutralise the smell and there isn't any advice other than bathing - can you keep him on the lead IN the field....

just think yourself lucky it aint fox muck  (w00t)

yes u are right... i agree with u ....

That's interesting I've heard of this before from a friend... I think a vet changed their diet and it went away?

I hate fox poo , one of our dogs will insist on having a wee roll in it should she find it in our park, it stinks to high heaven !!!

any poo from a grass/grain fed animal is of no real harm if they eat it, if you worm your dog regularly any paracitic issue will be addressed, they are more likely to get ill from eating snails than a bit of sheep/ cow/ horse poo.

as far as the smell is concerned if its anything as bad a fox poo there is no other remedy other than bathing the effected area, if its just feet/ legs then just pop him in the bath and with a good shampoo give his legs a wash, i can't ever imagine a doggy deodorant god enough to disguise the smell of fox poo bleurgh !!!!
