VICKI
Vicki is a 4 year old greyhound girl with a lovely brindle and white coat that is very prettily marked. She has new been retired from racing and is looking for a soft sofa to call hers.
Vicki is a newcomer to our kennels and is still adjusting to her surroundings. She is quite nervous and uneasy right now, and has clearly not had many cuddles in her previous 4 years. We will update with her progress when she starts to come out of her shell a bit more.
Dear Vicki has not yet experienced the joys of a home environment, so new owners will need to be understanding for the first couple of weeks and allow her to settle in. She has not yet been tested with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if needed.
Vicki is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
**UPDATE 06/2010**
Vicki took part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection annual jamboree recently and was on her best behaviour throughout. She is a very eyecatching greyhound, with her fawn brindle patches on white and striking amber eyes.
Vicki handled the bustling crowds with noisy children and all kinds of dogs very well considering how shy she was when she first came to us. Though a bit nervous at the start, once we got walking she soon settled down and by the end she was a happy, comfortable hound. She had no problem letting strangers come up and pet her, and was also unbothered by the young children running around.
This girl has massive potential and will bloom in to a truly gorgeous greyhound lady given the right kind of owner. She will need someone who understands her nervousness and who won't get impatient if she becomes uncomfortable in certain situations. Vicki might also greatly benefit from having another dog around to learn form and lean on. She has gotten on very well with all the dogs she has met so far.
Like most greyhounds, Vicki will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE 07/2010**
Vicki is still waiting for her forever home and we are hoping she will get it soon. Vicki is finding kennel life a bit stressful now and really needs the one-on-one time that is only gotten in a home environment. At 4 years old she has spent enough of her life in cold kennels and truly deserves to discover the home comforts now.
Vicki is a sensitive, but lovely little girl who will need a patient owner to introduce her to their home at her own pace. Though she has improved vastly from when she first came to us, she can still be shy of certain situations and loud noises. She is a beautiful little girl who is good with other dogs and really her only hang up is her shyness.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Vicki, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption application form. Thanks!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~
Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 50 greyhounds at any one time, in both Ireland and the UK.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA. We work hard to match the right hound to the right home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
