The owner had got a visit from a "police officer" claiming to be investigating a report that they owned a pitbull type dog. Later transpires that the "officer" was an imposter, not a policce officer at all!

I felt I shoould post it as many would had over their dogs papers, or worse still their dog, in order to prove their innoccence.

Warning,this Could Happen To You

anyone one that has been reading my thread 'my dog,a pitbull' will be well aware of the recent events that have taken place.

for anyone that hasnt this is a warning;

on friday i had a 'police officer' come round my house claiming they had recieved a complaint that i was keeping an illegal dog at my property. thet asked for trins paperwork,which i didnt hand over,and said they would be coming to collect trin 4 assessment.

this was a scam,from what i can gather i am not the only person that has been vitimised to make money out of the recent 'pitbull' scare.

people,maybe of the same network,are acting as police officers to get people to hand over there dogs,then are selling them on(we think)or worse,im the fortunate one,i didnt hand nething over.

most people would just want to co operate,as these 'officers' seem real,they have gone to great lengths to con people,they even gave me a 'reference num'.

luckily i went to the police station to get some info on trins sceduled assessment(at this point i had no idea that it was a scam),the police had no idea wot i was talking about.

if a 'police officer' comes to ur house claiming that you own an illegal dog please check there i.d,

you dont have to let them in without a warrent,

never hand over your dogs documents,there your only proof that your dog is wot you say it is,you dont have to hand nething over.

dont let them take your dog,they need a court order to do this.

if in doubt then dont let them in,lock your door and fone the police.

please dont fall 4 this scam like many others have,it is sick that people are making money out of the recent events but unfortunately it is going on.

thanx for taking the time to read this

Just to add;

The real police only need a warrant to seize your dog, not a court order as stated in the original thread.

That's dreadful. People in many areas are already scared that their dogs are going to be taken away, awful that people are cashing in on this to steal dogs.

Do you know what area of the country this was in, and would it be OK to cross post?

It happened in Somerset. Yes, please do cross post. The more we can get the word out that this is going on the less likely that people like this are going to succeed in stealing dogs.

here in st helens where the little girl was killed last month by her uncles pit bull the merseyside police have seized 86 pit bull type dogs from their owners.either cos theyve been handed in or cos someones rang the police and complained that a neighbour has one.
