We have a moaning thread but nothing about the nice little things that happen in our lives.
Thought it might be good to have a more positive thread.

I've been trying to find a cleaner for quite some time, not an agency, but an individual that comes in every time that I feel I can trust, and chat to. What with my bad back and OH's Asthma, housework has become increasingly difficult

I seem to have found one, she came yesterday and I can't believe how much she got done in 2.5 hours. She doesn't mind clearing cupboards, cleaning windows inside and out, hanging curtains and she even cleaned the inside of my car windscreen for me. That's alongside the normal hoover, polish and shower room spruce 👍

I gave her some Apples and asked if she wanted Tomatoes. Said she wasn't keen, so I asked if she'd ever had home grown. She hadn't..................She was blown away by the taste and took some home :)

I have so much to be thankful for...

My mum is staying for a week, and tomorrow my son and family are coming over (they only live a couple of miles away). So there will be 4 generations of us for lunch tomorrow :) Hopefully in the garden, as the 3-year-old is still liable to drop food accidentally, and the 1-year-old deliberately drops food, saying, 'Uh-oh' before she even lets go of it 🤣 I could really do with a dog to clean up after us!

@Rona, what a good idea.

I also have a new cleaner, coming today for the first time for a deep clean before a special visit that I'll share more about next week (if it turns out to be something to be thankful for - I'm sure it will).

Today I'm thankful for little things like predictable good weather so I was able to set my washing machine to go on 2½ hours before we got up, knowing I'd be able to line dry it.

I have a new machine and I can't quite get my head around the 2½ hour programme being more economical than the 37 minute one, but that's what the manual says.

I was thinking the same about having a positive thread 😊Though I was thinking of things that make you smile or warm your heart when you're out and about.

Mine is when I see a dog randomly drop and roll like it's the best thing ever!( and not a sniff and roll in something horrid!) This never fails to make me smile, love it...An old staff I used to walk used to do roly polys too, her equivalent of a happy dance, just wonderful!💓

In a similar vein to this, we have a new cleaner/care taker for our Church!
Due to an aging congregation the ability of members has fallen and our last cleaner wasn't doing what we paid for, we had several complaints about cleanliness from various groups who rent the premises.
We were also getting frequent calls to put things right - leaky taps, floods in the kitchen , heating not working etc which involved a 25 mile round trip to sort out. As OH was the only person capable of sorting these things out we got all the calls.
So the powers that be said we could employ a cleaner/caretaker and she's been with us 2 weeks now, the difference is amazing! Everything is clean and tidy, she lets us know when housekeeping stocks are running low and can deal with enquiries on the spot. She's working far more hours than we're able to pay her for as she loves cleaning.

Talk about Heaven Sent!

I meant the thread to be about anything at all, though best it not taken over by everyone's dog. I'm sure there are threads on the dog section for that.

Goldens are rollers, every single one I've had has rolled for joy

Sitting in the garden with my tea and toast today, watching all the comings and goings from the ‘Butterfly Bush’ . All the usual, plus a Humming Bird Hawk moth.

Overhead, really high up, we’re a couple of Buzzards on a thermal, then a little bi-plane appeared, did a loop-the-loop, then disappeared wherever it came from.

For me its been a wonderful week. My son came over for a few days with us.
We saw another purple heron and this morning we watched two stoats running about like twirling mad things. Just joyous free entertainment.

Mine's the same, though the eco programme takes almost 4 hours. I think the idea is that it lets the washing sit and soak for longer, rather than agitating it for most of the time.

Love the thread idea @Rona !

I'm sitting with Penny waiting for OH to wake up because we have a new bakery to try out. I shall report back :D

Every day I admire my tree line and am so grateful for it. Every single day. I never miss watching the trees and the way the look against the sky. They are all such good friends. Only one of them is on my property, but I can enjoy the others just as much. More, because I don't have the worry of maintaining them. :)

Reporting back, bakery was lovely. I had a vegan muffin that was full of all sorts of yummy nuts and fruits and just good! OH had a banana nut muffin, and we scored some sourdough and a hearty multigrain bread too. Yay!
Even better it was in a part of the city we don't usually go to and we discovered two other markets nearby with things we like but can't always find. Good morning!

I'm now cooking a big pot of lentils and sweet potatoes for the week, and they smell amazing!

Our daughter smashed her GCSEs!! She got her results on Thursday and did really well. We are so proud of her! She is enrolled at college now to do A levels in History, Law and Criminology.
My other positive is I successfully bathed Luna by myself in the garden yesterday! There was a lot of chasing of each other(me to get her wet and her to dive into the towel!!), we both got rather wet and despite being lovely and soft the the shampoo that claimed it would make her smell lovely and fruit scented should be renamed 'whiff of damp dog'! However the positive is she's bathed!!😁

After years of back and forth deliberation I finally decided to try a Bearby weighted blanket. This brand uses organic cotton knit, braided, instead of the quilted/glass bead form. I've tried the bead type. It was wonderful for about two weeks then all the beads sifted to the edges of the blanket and I was getting up several times a night trying to shake everything back in place, did this a few times before I realized how pointless it all was, so now that thing lives under the dresser.

Anyway the Bearby is very expensive and I keep looking at it but couldn't bring myself to spend the money until now. It almost never goes on sale. They offered a 10% off code which isn't a lot but something. They are closing down due to tariffs. So I bought one. It came and my biggest fear was realized, it had a terrible smell. I was expecting a smell, from the dye (I wanted a light color but they were all sold out) but not quite this bad.

I contacted them and they said that because they store the blankets without airtight plastic (environmental conscious company) when it is stored in the box it can sometimes pick up the odors in the warehouse. They advised me to air it out for five days and if the smell didn't dissipate enough for me, they would replace it.

Oh dear, as usual this story is getting too long. I set the blanket to air in my little upstairs. I put a sheet on the rug I have on the floor there and laid it out, but then my eye fell on the extra screen door I have up there and I got the brilliant idea to lay it out on the screen for better circulation. I propped the screen up on each end with storage tote lids. It is in the path of morning sunlight, and near a window which I open every morning and close every night.

I do think the smell is about gone which is why I am posting the story in this thread, as it is a Very Positive Thing lol. Not just that the smell is gone, but my brilliant idea haha. I hope it helps, because sleep, or even rest, continues to remain the most elusive thing in my life.

The benefit I found with the other one, before it failed was, it really does feel like a hug as it settles over me. And the weight keeps me still. I am a thrasher, legs kicking, and twitching tossing and turning, all night long. The blanket forced me to lie still, so even if I wasn't sleeping, at least I was resting my body. I am hoping for the same result, or better, with the Bearby.

I do hope your new blanket is a success @lorilu
I too prefer a weight on me. The synthetic summer duvet I'm using is too light so I have a heavy cotton bath towel on it simply for the additional weight.
