Hi everyone. Before I commit myself in buying some expensive scales for weighing the whippets, can anyone recommend some that they use? Must be very accurate.

Thanks

LAMPY

we use salter digital scales, very accurate a lot better than the spring type.

Ahhhh my favourite subject (w00t) If you want accurate you want digital

At the last champs they used spring scales  digital scales are good unless the battery runs down, each to their own it's all down to personal preference really Lampy

Yip every non-ped racer I know owns a pair of digi's and they're used at opens and champs events across the country. I believe spring scales need calibration annually to ensure accuracy (or at least that's the case with scales used in the NHS) wheras digital ones start to show inaccuracy as battery energy depletes so it's just a matter of replacing them frequently.

the trouble with spring scales is they are affected by the weather (hot/cold) so arn't as accurate as the digi ones.

I just wouldn't entertain spring scales anymore.

As long as you keep decent batteries in your digi ones you can't go wrong, not worth pissing about with spring balance ones for what digitals cost, i can be sure that i'll weigh my dogs on my own scales in the car park before i have them weighed in on official scales and my dogs will be bob on. I panic too much about weighing over (the dog obviously not me with my size 8 figure :- " ) all my dogs run at the top end of their weight (we get 1/4lb allowance) so the likes of Cara will run bang on 19lb 4oz (and weigh in as a 19lber) and Jude 29lb 4oz (runs at 29lb) there is no need to hold your dog at say 28 1/2 lb for the sake of making sure you get in at 29lb which is what i used to do years ago with the spring scales. Like Jacqui said i think the non ped racers are in a good position to be able to give a good account on scales as pretty much every non ped club in the country and all 3 governing bodies who betweeen them have an open on every weekend use the digi's and i doubt anyone would go back, no complaints about dogs weighing in wrong, if they do then it's purely owner error and that's that.

Thanks for your comments everyone  . I've sent for some today should be here tomorrow (w00t)

LAMPY

And when you weigh in at our Open with the SPRING type scales your dog weighs what we SAY it weighs
