The South East WRC meets most Sundays at....

Thurrock Rugby Club

Oakfield

Long Lane

Grays

Essex

The SE WRC is growing club and we have at least 20 dogs competing in club racing, at times last summer this exceeded 40 dogs.

For those who don't where we are...

'oakfield' is the home ground of Thurrock RFC, and from the M25 you should leave at J30/31 (the last junction before the dartford crossing), and take the A13 towards Tilbury/Southend. Then take the 2nd exit marked 'grays' on the A13 (the next one after lakeside), on this junction take the 4th exit (marked grays), you will then approach another roundabout. From here you should to take the 1st exit (marked stifford clays). This is Long Lane, it is approx 1 1/2 miles to the rugby club, go across 2 mini roundabouts and when the road narrows turn right into the rugby club.

Hope to see you all there in the near future, all welcome..

I'm gonna put a bit of history of the SE WRC club on here in the next couple of days, cos from what I've learned whippet racing was extremley popular down in East London and the surrounding area's.

And, I have learnt that Sheila and Arthur were attracted to the sport as their son was best mate's with Clive Allen (ex Tottenham and England footballer), and he had a pedigree as a kid, and they were badgered into getting a whippet :)

Well done Clive, I remember when you scored 49 goals for Spurs in a single season!

Regards,

Paul

Also told today, that ex-Newcastle player Glen Roeder also used to whippet race down here...which sadly reminds me Spurs lost 1 nil to the Geordies today in the cup, and i owe Paul Jennings a tenner :( Can't say Spurs weren't the better team though...
