Can i ask those of you who breed there dogs,[ now i have my views on this ] at what age would you let your pups go to there new homes

IMO 8/10 weeks, i have found that after this the pup tends to bond with us and when it goes to its new home has trouble bonding with the new owner, we even had one owner who had to call the pup Poppy because it would only answer to puppy, and this was the nearest name she could find.

Thanks Paula, 8/10 weeks thats what i was hoping to hear, the first thing i asked jills breeder at what age could i have a pup, her reply was 8 weeks, if she would have said under that age, i wouldnt have had jill for free, im sure at some stage ive read on k9 where people have picked up their pup at 5 weeks old.

5 weeks??? mine were still nursing then!

my dad doesnt let his whips go at under 8 weeks, however i had a litter of pups with my ebt (2) and she also had 4 gsd pups ( whole litter rejected by mum) feeding on her, so was bringing up 6, at 5 wks a friends rottie bitch died suddenly leaving 8 pups, so after speaking with 2 vets and my pups having full health checks i let the bitch go to foster the rottie pups and continued to rear my pups on formula and food with 2day visits to vets to keep an eye on them, all grew up with no problems an one still lives up the road in same village as me, however i would never recommend for anyone to do that except in extreme circumstances and always follow the vets advice to the letter, btw all of the three mixed litters that bitch brought up have all grow into fine healthy dogs.
