Hello there,

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Our dog, Sasha, is 9 months old, and it is driving us up the wall that we don't know what cross she is!

Her mother was a German Shepard, crossed with a Staffordshire bull terrier, but the sire is unknown..

The lady we brought her from was.. lets say.. not the most savoury of characters. She claimed that the sire was also a Staffordshire bull terrier, but sent us an image from google images....

Sasha was the runt of the litter, but she has immense strength. My partner layed on her playing around and she lifted him off the ground (he is 9 stone) and she is only 9 months..

She is the friendliest dog you could ever meet, she lives with a 2 year old springer spaniel. She's obsessed with sticks, and totally besotted with the springer.

We would just like to know, as if she is of a banned breed, then we would like to be responsible and get her registered.

hi and welcome :) . your girl is very beautiful, my advice would be to get dna testing, then dependent on the results of that get insurance and register her. I would then make sure you keep that insurance and DNA results where you can find them quickly should you get a knock at the door x

Yes, I'm with Raven oaktree on this one. If it would set your mind at rest, or even if it would allow you to then start the process of registering your dog and making her legal, then that's the course you need to go down.

The risk of someone pointing a finger and then it being decided that she's an illegal dog would eat away at me, particularly if she's a sweet dog that doesn't warrant anybody finger pointing.

She could be an American Bulldog cross, but I wouldn't want to say for certain that she is, and I have no idea how the genes would mix and what the potential difference would be if she was a pit mix. The one thing I can say for certain is that there's little GSD visible in there :)

I dont want to scare you but actually this is something you need to deal with ASAP ! If someone reports you for having an 'illegal type' dog, your dog will probably be seized by the police. the dogs are taken to a secret location where you are not allowed any contact and it will be up to you to prove she is not of the 'illegal' type to save her life. I know this sounds very dramatic, but really..this happens and it happens alot. Its a very long and very expensive process to get your dog back, the whole time you are allowed no contact. My next door neighbour had both her dogs seized .One was a staffy cross cross, and didnt even look like a banned breed-but they took her anyway. The other was a banned breed crossed with lab (she didnt know this when she rehomed her). My neighbour is an amazing dog owner, and it took her 2 years alot of fighting , alot of tears and alot of money to get her dogs back. Obviously she has lost 2 years with them, they were in awful condition when they were returned to her, the staffy's coat was stained yellow where she had been sleeping in urine soaked bedding :( :(. not only had they not been looked after properly but she had missed 2 years of training and socialization.(. If she had any money left she would have tried to sue the kennels where the dogs had been kept...its just awful. She had 2 fantastic dogs in fab condition and now she has 2 scared , unsocialized dogs in poor condition. Im so sorry to scare you, but please, please if you feel there is any chance at all your dog could have 'problems' with her breed description please take steps ASAP to get her registered and legal..and keep these documents close to hand AT ALL TIMES . Also you need to be aware that dogs with 'restricted breeds' in them are not allowed to be given away, sold or bred from...so sorry if this seems dramatic , but is a very real problem for people who own and love these dogs. Check out breed not deed websites, maybe ring for advice and keep thier number close to hand. trust me if the police suddenly turn up at your door you will be very glad you had an 'action plan' with papers and numbers to hand ...im sorry, she is very beautiful but you need to make this a priority xxx

Try these for advice BEFORE contacting the police ;) ...no point in alerting the police if there isnt a problem eh ? ..speak to these people first for advice xxx. i wish you all the luck and please keep us informed on the progress.. it might be good to have a specific post with your progress to help others ?..

Also..in the meantime while you sort this out...if the worse case senario happens and god forbid you get that knock on the door DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING ..NOTHING !!!!!! the police will try and get you to sign a form and in the chaos its easy to sign...DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. a seized dog cannot be destroyed without a court order UNLESS you sign to say you give permission..DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING that they give you , what ever they tell you it is xx
