the nutty woman over the road got herself a very young pup in the Summer. it spent its time sat out on the grass every day in an unfenced garden from 8 am till midnight they all sat there all day the pup as running about and doing as it pleased with her screeching at it like a bloody fish wife. I had a few chats with her about food tarning worming and jabs and she said she would get it all sorted.

At the end of the school holidays in went the nutter her kids and the dog. I thought after a few weeks she had got rid of it after all shes all ready got rid of 2 of her 4 kids a few other dogs and god knows what else. But in the last few weeks I have been hearing puppy crying at night and on and off all night I started having a look about and its her dog. the poor things about 7 months old now is through out most nights and is now running round the streets during the day.

one day we were trying to get it in her garden and her dad came past he said he thought it was her dog and he went over to it the poor thing let out such a cry of fear it was horrid. Its done the same thing when Tony gone near it absolutely petrified of men. it will only go to people that have Small children with them and then they cant touch it.

I phoned the rspca last week they came and spoke to her but as threes a sort of shelter and water outside theirs nothing they can do. Its now freezing outside the poor thing is running about again now and cuddling up at the front door step trying to get in.

Its the size and bullied of a small whippet but with a terrier type face sweet but timed. I don't know what else to do I had a chat with her 2 days ago after the rspca had been round about keeping her in collars and id tags and not letting her stray but its made no difference what do I do next

Oh dear; this sounds awful (and just too familiar; it happens everywhere).

How about phoning your local Dog Warden and discussing it, and asking them to go round and speak with the owner? That might help?

It is awful when we're so concerned but nothing seems to get done.

Good luck; :luck: :luck: and others might have some more constructive suggestions/ideas on here. Thank you for caring about that little pup.

Sorry but I think if it were me I'd get hold of the pup somehow and drop it off as a stray I'd found (perfectly true if you pick it up when its wandering the streets) with a rescue that doesn't put dogs to sleep, e.g. Dogs Trust, as far from the pups home as I could manage. I can't see any other way in which you can guarantee this dog a good outcome. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I know how frustrated, concerned and helpless you must feel.

I was also going to suggest handing the dog in as a stray next time you find him wandering, I bet the owner wouldn't pay the release fee to get him back even if she bothers to find out where he is.

Unfortunately rescues aren't allowed to take in strays, they have to spend 7 days in the council pound. A lot of pounds hand unclaimed dogs onto rescues (if there's space for them) but in some areas there is a danger they will be put to sleep once their time is up so I'd want to be sure that he would be safe if he gets handed in.

If you think this might be a good option and want to PM me to say where you are I can probably find out which pound he'd go to and whether he'd be likely to get into rescue from there?

Absolutely agree with the plan of catching the little dog whilst it is straying off her premises and moving it to a safe place.

Is it a bitch? If so then it won't be long before she has her first season and then there'll be puppies too

If you would like to PM me I can talk you through a few options

Some rescues will take in 'strays' if the local authority have been informed that you have the dog and attempts have already been made to reunite the dog with its owner. The stray dog is supposed to have been in the finders care for 28 days but ... :-

I'd avoid handing in to a pound if I could ... it's just really risky re. the possibility that the dog will be euthanased.

True the rules can possibly be bent, and it certainly sounds as though the dog needs to be out of where he/she is :-

But then finding a rescue who can take a hand-in is pretty difficult - Dogs Trust round here have a six-month waiting list for hand-in places and it's worse in some areas. Bobo, are you able to say what area you are in, possibly there may be places we can suggest?

I wonder what the selection process was for picking threads to copy, for some reason I am finding this highly amusing :clown:
