I am hoping to get a whippet puppy soon and was wondering what size crate I should have for her? What size crate do other people use?

The crate would be for bedtime and times when she is left alone. It is very rare that our dogs are alone as my fiance works office hours and I work evenings and weekends so there is normally someone here with them.

Also, any advice on other essentials would be very welcome.

Thanks

For Gracie, I was lent a puppy crate from a breeder friend of mine which is a great option because they grow out of them so quickly. It was large enough to be comfortable for her and she could stand and turn around easily but not big enough for her to be able to poo or wee without having to sit next to it. Not very nice for fastidious whippets so pups learn to hold overnight even though we gave Gracie a late walk and an early morning garden pit stop. She's six months now and we got her a Croft 36" crate about six weeks ago. It seems enormous but she is still growing and filling out. She goes in at night, is fed in there and quite often wanders in in the day time of her own accord, usually followed by one of our others. Never had a problem and she has NEVER had an overnight accident! Good luck with you pup - post some pics.

Should have also said, never use the crate as a punishment otherwise she'll be really unhappy about going in. Introduce her slowly, a few minutes at a time and build up the time she is in there. Initially I left the door open and then shut it for a few seconds only, opened it and let her out. That's also the reason I fed her in there and still do, so it's a good association.

Yes, I have always fed my dachshund in her crate and she loves it in there!
