You may remember that I posted a while ago about my bitch Mabel, who at that stage had been in season about 35 days. Welllll... she is still in season, and on about day 47 or something...lost count of the days now, but she came in on 25th September!

I took her to the vet on Friday, and she has been on antibiotics 'just in case', but this has been a perfectly normal season, just mega long! Until yesterday, that is :- "

When I got home last night, Mabel and Alfie were looking very sheepish and a bit odd, Alfie was licking himself and had a very sore willy... In short, I am sure they have mated!! (w00t) Mabel was also lifting her tail in his face at every opportunity!

Now, what I would like to know is- has anyone heard of a bitch being mated this late, or is it possible she was not properly in season before?

I don't think anything will come of it anyway- Alfie has mated 2 bitches, neither of whom became pregnant- bless him  I have always wanted a pup from him but just a bit confused about the circumstances really...

Meanwhile, Mabel now seems to have finally stopped bleeding so I guess it's just a case of wait and see...

Lydia knows of a bitch who mated after her 50th day and had a litter of healthy pups.

So there could be little Alfies. :luck:

OH MY GOD!!!!! :luck:

Polly,s last season went on for weeks, she seemed to drift in and out for a while then come in properly.

My money's on the patter of tiny feet. How sweet, love conquers all

Gosh, an exciting day for all fawn-coloured, hairy pointy-nosed things on k9 then (w00t) :luck:

Gracie's litter came from a mating like that! (w00t) :D :teehee: So little Alphie/Mabels could be on the way! Maybe he was just waiting for the right girl? :- If it happens I'm sure they'll have gorgeous puppies!  Alice will be an Auntie, Aah bless her beautiful blueness! :huggles:

Folly was mated on her 29th day and continued to bleed for another 2 weeks!! She had a lovely litter.

The patter of little Alfies - what a prospect. Only nine weeks to wait!!!!

True Love indeed. Can't wait for the outcome, it's a little bit magical but then again I'm a little bit soppy.

Jenny

now busy knitting for you just in case

Liz, my friend had an accidental mating with two of her PRTs, her vet said to do a clear blue pregnanct test on the bitch after four weeks. This was only two weeks ago so she doesn't know yet!

Well thanks for all your comments everyone, I don't know whether to be pleased or devastated, I know half brother/sister matings are carried out all the time but I didn't really want this to happen

Funnily enough, I was talking to Mabel's breeder only a couple of days ago, and she agreed with others, including my vet, that Mabel should be mated on her next season, to hopefully avoid the possibility of a pyometra.

We discussed suitable mates for her and eventually settled on 2 possibles, neither of which was Alfie

Seems Mabel had her own ideas...

In a funny sort of way, I suppose I am a bit excited, though don't forget Alfie's two previous attempts were unsuccessful!

Guess it's just a waiting game now...

I love this story!

Liz, I would be so happy for you if ended up with baby Mabel/Alfie's - and I have been thinking about maybe getting myself a show puppy now that I have a car :- "

look forward to visiting soon

Good luck to Mabel and Alfie. I think it was meant to be

Please could we have pics to remind us what the future parents look like :- "

would this be your first litter?

I have a great book on whelping that you could borrow if you wish, it would be no problem to post it. Good luck if she is, and thank god if she isnt

I tell ya, accidental matings you can guarantee you'd have a higher success rate than if you'd planned a mating for years!!!!

OOhhhh this is exciting can't wait to see if there are going to be more k9 puppies

Sounds like it was meant to be :p

Hi Firemansam,

This would be Mabel's first litter, my second as I have had a litter of IGs, and delivered a litter of Whippets for someone else. The IG litter was stressful, the Whippet litter easy as they just plopped out! (w00t)

Is the book you have 'The book of the Bitch'? I have it too, and should know it off by heart, I've read it so many times!! Thanks for the offer though.

Well if she is I'd take it as one of those things that's just meant to be :luck: :luck:
