I have a mini schnauzer/cocker spaniel cross, at the moment she seems to be going crazy searching in the grass on the field where I walk her. It's not just discarded bits of food she's coming across but she seems to be getting a scent of something growing in the grass. Just wondering if anyone knows what it could be or have a dog that's behaving similarly

I wonder if it's wildlife? Maybe she can smell fox pee, or possibly rat pee?

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

Quite possibly wildlife - squirrels, mice, rats, voles, rabbits. And places where other dogs have been, some bird species, so much that she can scent and we can't. It's good mental exercise, so let her do that all she wants.

Last year it snowed. The path we walk on where the dogs sniff and track normally invisible things suddenly became a path full of paw prints tiny mouse and rat ones but also bigger ones like pine martins or possibly otters ( its next to the lake) plus the tracks of many birds.
We are blind to the smells that dogs track.
