Hi

Please can someone tell me what is the difference between a pedigree whippet and a non-pedigree whippet?

Please please don't take offence and flame me but i just do not know what it means. :b

I always thought you had "pedigree" dogs and "cross breeds",i didn't know there was such a thing as a non-pedigree dog. :b

I can see that there is a slight difference in appearance between the two but just wanted to know.

sorry i really really don't want to offend anyone but i've asked a couple of people and get the feeling it's a "sensitive "question but unless i ask i'll never know :b

thanks

well, pedigree whippets (or any breed) are kc registered, and therefore pure. whereas a non ped may have strains of other breeds, ie greyhound, within them. sometimes a technically ped dog wont get registered for several reasons, maybe the dam was too young/old to be legitimately bred from. maybe an undesirable colour (on a staffie forum theres a debate going on about black and tan staffs) possibly the bitch has already had her quota of litters. or even the stud owner wont release the registration form.

another difference is price, whether it be the cost of a pup, the stud fee, or the insurance
