What are your experiences with age gaps between pups? Is there an ideal age the first dog should be before a new one is introduced to the family? Do puppies that are close in age cause more mayhem?! :- "

I remember two litter mates (went to same family) attending an obedience group i went too - they were v naughty! (w00t) (w00t)

I'd appreciate your experiences. We've only had one at a time in my family, except when my sister got her Whip x who was a rescue several years ago.

For what i want them for (racing) i'd say 2 years is a nice gap, that means one's just at the right age to be racing and you have a youngster to be training too, in theory you would then only get a maximum of about 7 at any one time  :- "

Our biggest age gap is 3 1/2 years .........Our smallest gap is nil as we kept 2 pup's out of our first litter ..........As for naughtiest etc .......the 2 pup's (1 year old now) are fab, it's our old girl who causes most of the havoc (w00t) lol

The obedience trainer said that two puppies from same litter / close in age were usually more difficult to train than a single pup? After a certain stage do older dogs become intolerant to puppy behaviour and more reluctant to accept the new pup?

Depends on the pup .....My old girl has always shown EVERY pup we've had that she's top dog :) .....Depending on the pup/temprement depends on how much of a hard time Joanna gives them ........Over the years our easy, fall into line pup's have had an easy time from Joanna, yet the pushy dominant pup's have had a real hard time :- " .....As for 2 pup's together .....I bred my 2 and know the line and they were really, really easy to train (as a matter of fact they are my 2 most obedient) .......but I'm not sure how much of this is the fact that I know this lines strengths/faults and weaknesses ........2 pup's together often have a very strong bond with each other, this is what makes 2 together difficult to train as "YOU" should be the 1 the pup's bonded to .......but there are ways of over coming this ......just learn to be Alfa dog and have fun :D

Our current dog is extremely submissive and has often been beaten up by dogs a fraction of her size! (she's a 36kg Dobe, 2 1/2 years). When we get a new whippet baby i think she'll take it all in her stride and before long i very much doubt that she'll be top dog!

I have 2 litter sisters I think the obdience thing can be an issue because of concentration so I tended to seperate them to teach them things so they were each learning without the distraction of the other, I got Spry when mine were 8 months old and callie automatically has a partner in crime(callie has always been the naughty one of the two  ) but I found they were both very tolerant of her pestering them and let her get away with practically anything, even Sienna who is generally not keen on puppies

She's had the odd telling off, from the cat mainly  but she's unfazed by much really, but i do think older dogs do make exeptions for babies they did in my case anyway

Good luck with your new puppy :luck: :luck:

I had my first whippet when my greyhound was 5 years old , it gave her a new lease of life . after that theyve come in various age gaps . , Harvee and India are the first litter bro and sis ive kept , but mine all play together (w00t) and then some times they split into couples , eg India and Harvee ,then there`s Libbee and Mikkee . Mollee tends to do `her own thing` and just wants to chase crows , squrills and the like , Even Gt grandma Mayzee   has the odd play  but the min they get too boisterious she gives them what for   Lack of repect , thats what she says
