This is my first post! We are the proud owner's of a rather mad 9 month old whippet bitch. This is our first dog, we expected it to be easier than this but it has been worth it all as we couldn't imagine life without her. We are expecting her to start to calm down soon, or at least we hope so! We really think she would benefit from racing or lure coursing, purley for fun. Does anyone know of a good place to go near us, we live in Haydock? Oh, and can anyone confirm that our crazy whippet is normal? and that one day won't be as crazy!!!

Welcome to the forum :)

She's normal  Might take her another year or so yet before she really calms down ... or you could get lucky ;)

The Northern Pedigree Whippet Racing club is probably your closest if she's a ped, they meet near Chorley, or Astley and Tyldesley if a non ped ... both have forums on here

Like Anne says only just to add we're running alternate Saturdays at Westhoughton greyhound track.

For Gin Pit (Astley) or Westhoughton, PM me or Vicky on the forum.

For Chorley I think it's Carol or Barry Jepson on the forum.

There's also pedigree whippet racing at Hollingsworth park just off M62. Contact Mark or Paula Roberts on the forum.

All of the racing clubs have sub forums on K9's main page and the racing managers can also be contacted through there. :)

Your wee girl sounds adorable and as loopy as my darling Tina was  They DO settle down eventually and become a wonderful - THE most wonderful - relaxing breed to have around.

But no hope for you I'm afraid.....whippet ownership IS a form of madness (w00t) No cure either.....you just have to learn to live with it! :-
