So my dogs always used to sleep in their bed downstairs at night. However when I separated from my husband he took our big two dogs and left me only with my little beloved Cash who ended up sleeping in the bed with me everynight! :> Then of course I got little Dolly as a companion for him and continued the trend (that I was never going to start) of them all sleeping beside me! I must admit though I love how Dolly lies on my feet and keeps them cosy and Cash always puts his head on the pillow and wriggles his wee bum right in against me to cuddle in...occasionally the cat joins us too....

There was some research recently I think about the well-being benefits for both pets and owners (don't like the term 'owner' but you know what I mean) sleeping together. At home Timber sleeps in his cosy bed - a soft padded type with a memory foam base and three fleecy blankets. In the campervan when we are away we take his bed and he sleeps in it until about 5.00 in the morning, then he joins me and lies between my feet. I lie awake trying not to move so I don't disturb him. Often with cramp. What was that about well being?

It's funny you should say that lol because last night I found myself hanging off the edge of my superking bed to accommodate two whippets!!! lol. I had one sprawled right out and I didn't want to squish her and another snoring in my ear! But I just love having them there! Especially as after their morning walk and breakfast they get put into their bed (porch/kitchen) when I leave. I hate the thought of them being in their bed all through the night, walked and fed then put back in for a few hours. I just think its nicer if they get the night time with me (even though we are all sleeping)

I too share my bed with two chunky whippets....oh, and a well trained husband! He didn't really get the whole "devoted to my dog" thing until we got a little bitch who adores him. Now he gets it completely. She sleeps in a basket next to the bed as she hates the others touching her. She's a real diva.

When we were first married I had an Italian greyhound who at my insistance slept in our bed, which she had done since I got her 2 years previously. After one memorable night where she not only peed in our bed but then also puked in it she was relegated to a sheepskin lined basket beside the bed.
