Hello

Sounds like an odd request but I'll explain! I have been fostering Dash Whippet from Scruples for nearly a month and he has a super forever home approved in Oxfordshire. The family want to see how Dash is with their other two dogs, preferably in a free running environment. We have arranged to meet up on Sunday. Now, the reason Dash was given up for rehoming is that he has no recall!! So I need to find neutral territory to introduce these dogs which is totally enclosed and Dash proof. He will come back to me if he is in an enclosed area, but I don't want to risk him off lead if he can run off. The family know all about his recall problems and have experience of training dogs with similar issues so it is not a problem to them. They can't take him til the end of July due to holiday commitments so I would be quite prepared to drive towards them to meet up, which would also save them a two and a half hour drive to mine.

Does anyone know of a dog park or similar (or does anyone want to loan us an enclosed field? ) somewhere between Cheshire and Oxfordshire?? We do have a local dog park but Dash is getting quite familiar with it and I think he's clocked that the gates are quite low so I don't take him there anymore.....

Thanks for any pointers. :))

Sorry can't help with a dog park but are there any tennis courts near to you that you can use?

I am on the west coast of Cheshire, the Wirral and I don't know of any dog parks. We do have a couple of fantastic beaches where, when the tide is out, you can walk for miles and not see anybody but I don't know if this would be any good for you. You would probably find something closer to where you are looking anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I have asked around and think I might have found somewhere so am going to investigate this afternoon :))

Have you had a look on that "Driving with Dogs" site?

If you haven't found anywhere yet it might be worth asking any rescues in the area if they have a secure exercise area you could use for an hour. I know Greyhound Gap in Stoke-on-Trent have a paddock, though I don't know if it would be available for something like this but possibly worth a try?

The other option might be a riding stables with an indoor school - some people hire them for free-running their rescue greyhounds and they often don't charge much if it's a quiet time.

Hi! I'd like to introduce myself as Dash's future owner :D We braved it at the dog park and all went well! I'm so pleased and Dash will be coming to us at the end of the month. I have to say that Esty has done an amazing job with him - to say he has no recall is an exaggeration - he is responding to her really well even when he could see another dog having fun playing fetch (although if there were no fences it may have been a different story!) He never attempted to jump the gate but he did manage to open it with his paw, bless him, so I'm already upgrading the dogproofing around the house ;)

Esty - thanks for pointing me towards this forum but apologies in advance if I pester you like mad about the lovely Dash in the next 3 weeks.......

Hi Welcome to the forum.

Delighted all went well yesterday.

Wishing you well for when Dash joins you :luck: .

Hello Brownmare

So glad you have joined the forum as many people on here want to follow Dash's progress and will welcome any number of pics of him in and around his new home. If there's one thing there can never be enough of on here, it's doggy pics - we're a nosey lot! Dash's first fosterer is 'Lal' on here and the Scruples founders are 'themetalchicken' and 'jinnyfizz' :))

Keep us updated when you take him home. I now feel I am looking after Dash for a friend rather than giving up 'my dog' and it feels brill.

x

Hi, and welcome! I am so pleased all went well yesterday :)) I fostered Dash for a few days when he first came into Scruples care and have to say that he stole my heart pretty quickly! He is a really lovely character and adores people. He has made amazing progress in a short time thanks to Esty and I'm sure he will continue to blossom with you. I have to laugh at him learning to open the gate, I was warned when I collected him that thumb latches etc are no barrier to him, he is so intelligent that you can almost see 'the cogs whirring' as he works things out! :D

I am so pleased you have joined the forum and that I can continue to follow Dash's progress on here. Wishing you and Dash a long and happy future together :luck:

Thanks for the welcome :)) It's nice to know Dash has a full set of online family too ;) and I will definitely keep you updated when he comes home (as if you could stop me hehe) but for now I have stripey withdrawal..............................

Oh dear...... Stripey withdrawal is a chronic condition, it doesn't leave you!! I still miss Dash's special 'stripey smile' and that was after only a few days! I hope that you are coping with the condition and it doesn't spoil your holiday. Dash's 'stripey magic' has clearly got to you ;) x

Ah yes, but I will have a permanent cure in 3 weeks ;) I'm so lucky none of you fosterers kept him!
