Does anyone have any whippet breeder contacts that they have heard good things about?

I am hoping that some of the breeders who used to be an active part of "The K9 Community" which is what this forum was called in the past will have contacted you by personal message.

The trouble with recommending any particular breeder is that nowadays some members of the general public have a totally unrealistic attitude to what a breeder can achieve.

Of course everyone would like their dogs to live to a ripe old age with no health or behavioural issues during their lifetime - however in many cases this is just not going to be possible and is totally unrealistic.

There are so many things that influence the health of a dog over it's lifetime that cannot be foreseen by a breeder such as over vaccination, environmental pollutants like pesticides and household chemicals, inappropriate housing, poor feeding, lack of socialization, lack of exercise, neutering, lack of appropriate veterinary care - really an endless list - Yet time and again the less informed dog owners would have you believe that any problems a dog should encounter must somehow be due to a lacking in the breeder's skills.

I would personally always be wary of recommending a particular breeder - although conversely I wouldn't hesitate to steer someone away from a breeder where I have certain knowledge of issues surrounding their practice.

There are no guarantees in this life, with anything, and I feel it is important to remember this when we consider what our expectations are from any breeder.

I would just like to agree with all that dogmatize said. In Whippets I know quite a few I would be happy to buy from and a few I wouldn't go near. But I wont give a recommendation. Just a small funny point, we did actually send a message to a Sheltie breeder we had a pup from earlier complaining that her stock must be unhealthy as we had just lost the one we had from her at the young age of 18 1/2. Needless to say it went on to say what a lovely dog she had been, and we got a lovely reply from her.
