:)) We have a whippet bitch who will be 5 at the end of this month. We have had her from a pup and would really like to mate her for her to have pups of her own. I am having trouble finding someone in the Essex area that may have a stud dog. If anyone has any information perhaps that can let me know. Thanks.

Post a photo of her and some info; is she registered with the KCC, is she a show dog, race dog, who are her parents?????.

I know that people do it, but I personally would think twice about breeding a 1st litter at the age of 5. If she'd already had a litter then I wouldn't worry so much, but after 5 for a first litter things are just a tad riskier.

Just my thoughts.

Quite agree with you Wendy . Very risky for a first litter IMO

Still not heard what her breeding is either

Alot of the racing people breed from their bitches at around 4-5 when the bitch is starting to slow down..........

Hmmm, I too would be concerned at her having a first litter at nearly 5. Why not go back to her breeder for another pup if you like those lines and try to get a half sister maybe. Just a thought.

I have to say that I too have heard that it is more risky for a bitch to have her first litter after the age of four. Patsy Gilmore says this in her book too. And from personal experience, whilst my Layla had her first litter only on her second season, she was nearly 4 at the time and we had to have a caesarean.

On the other hand I heard of a bitch who had her first litter at 9 yrs of age with no trouble at all.

So whilst I'm not saying don't do it ... just be aware that there are some risks involved.

Good luck with your search. You will need to give her pedigree if she has one so the ped people have an idea of where/to whom to direct you...
