I just wondered what the best type of crate to buy was. Considering I want it to be big enough for my whippet when he's an adult, but not overly big because I live in a small flat, whats a bearable size crate to buy?

And does it matter if the base tray is plastic or metal?

Thanks

We buy ours from Argos we"ve had them years and there still as good as new, i"d get the large size, the plastic tray can sometimes be chewed, but if they have enough toys and chews this may stop it happening.

I reckon the best size is 31" long, 24" high and 21" wide. You can manage with a size smaller (25x21x18) but it is a bit cramped for a larger whippet. And a metal tray is more indestructible. I have had plastic trays eaten by bored whippets, and by excited whippets at race meetings.

I got Sid's crate from Argos and have no complaints with it. I put a cot bumper round the sides so it is nice and cosy for him
