Hi guys,

I was up this morning at 6 to let my two out into the garden and was wondering if I was on my own, or if we all get up early to let our whippets out?

My whippety day goes as follows:-

6am-let them out of the dining room where they sleep overnight, they then have a dental stick and get onto the sofa for a sleep!

8am-out for an hour or so walk on the beach or the estuary back in the dining room to dry off.

10am-on the sofa for a sleep

12 noon-back in the dining room while I go to work.

4pm-out for a half hour walk around the local playing fields.

5pm-Dinner and some play on the sofa before sleep.

10pm-bowl of milk and off to bed!

All the rest of my day (!) is taken up with real life haha! I was wondering if everyone's whippets sleep as much? They are the perfect dog I think...x

up by 6 every morning to let them out then they go back to bed and I am left wondering what to do with my self till grandaughter gets dropped of

Aren't they funny going back to sleep after sleeping all night! My daughter is expecting her first baby in April...I wonder how much that will affect our routine, they are good with children so fingers crossed they will enjoy the whole thing, I hear various ways of introducing dogs to babies, from Cesar Milan saying make them stay a respectful distance away to freinds saying they should have a good sniff!

Tina used to be the same.......a crazy half hour or hour on the beach and she was snoozing from the minute she got back into the car

As to introducing babies to the household: there's an article about just that very thing in the new issue of Dogs Today, pages 68-71.

When my niece was born in 1992 we had two dogs: 13yo Lady (lab X) and 3yo Buster (jack russell) and they were fine with her. When we brought her home we didn't stop the dogs from meeting her (ALWAYS under supervision mind!) as they were both lovely placid breeds and they were part of our family and included in everything. Lady had always been a bit shy of children but once Rachel arrived she took it upon herself as HER mission to keep guard outside her bedroom door and if Rachel cried Lady would come down to let my sister know :thumbsup: I think if you use just basic common sense there won't be a problem - kids & dogs belong together :wub: Sure there won't be a problem :thumbsup:

Thank you Foxglove, I will get Dogs Today with the Sunday Papers. Yes, they are very gentle with children they meet so common sense and supervision is the way to go....

Mine sleep a lot of the time as well.

They get out for a toilet run, then into the dog yard with a cew or bone, then on the lounge and then in, out, in, out depeneding on what I am doing. They are only ever one step behind

I have you kids and the dogs are great. They kids when very young were always supervised and got int rouble much more then the dogs did as they were always trying (trying, but being pulled up before they could) to climb on them, but they are a bit older now and much better. The dogs were always patient and gentle, never had a child knocked over yet!
