Is it usual for a whippet's head to have a greater measurement than its neck? Or does it just depend on the individual?

It depends on which dimensions your referring to, most animals have a wider skull compared to their neck so I presume this isn't what your on about. All sighthounds have a dolichocephalic skull (long headed) but I don't know of a correlation of this to their neck circumference? (I presume this is what you mean as I cannot see why the neck length would be of relevance in regards to making collars) Your probably right though as the larger the skull the wider the neck would need to be to support it's weight.whippophile said:Is it usual for a whippet's head to have a greater measurement than its neck? whippophile said:Thank you both. I need head circumference at widest part - think of slipping something over doggy's head - and base of neck circumference. Don't think I expressed mysself very well.
Just double checked because I thought the base of the neck would be bigger and this time got more or less the same measurements for the whippets but the greyhound has a 16 inch neck thought 14.5 was a bit small for himoakmoorehill said:just measured owen he is head 13.5 inches neck 13 inches but hes a big lad
Bandit is 12 inch head and 11 inch neck
Tegan is 11 inch head 10 in neck
Didnt measur rosie as she is tiny
For the head measurement i measured between the ears and the eyes
out of interest meaured my greyhound too he has a 14.5 inch neck and a 16 inch head
Don't know if I'm right but to me a stallion hound is similar to a stallion horse, very muscular and masculine looking although retaining the characteristics of the breedwhippophile said:Thank you all for your measurements. What is a 'stallion hound'?
Nope - not at all. All the whippets I've measured have the same neck base measurement as head measurement. This is why whippets can slip regular collars easily. Unless you have a buckle collar done up tight behind the ears (where it would be uncomfortable for everyday wear, they can escape it. That's why I use loose collars for tags, but walk them on martingales or TIGHT whippet collars (tight around the neck).oakmoorehill said:I must have strange whippets as the base of their necks is more or less the same as their heads
