My oldest Whippet News is issue 13 dated April 1964

Between then and now I have some big gaps in the magazines numbers.

Is it worth having an Archive of all the copies.

I'm Happy to contribute or store the Archive.

My idea is to allow all access to the Library/Archive from any research in the future.

I've spoken to Chris Cornish and she has told me that she does not have all issues.

What do you think - don't through your old copies away.

good idea

i have some old copies of whippet news 60s/70s/80s/90s not all complete, if you wanted to borrow them your more than welcome too.

My mum has every whippet news published apart from issue 1 & 2, we have on several occasions tried to get copies of these but to no avail, again i'd say if anyone has these i would love to obtain them to make my mum the complete set. :)

As a newcomer I found it very interesting to look at old copies of Whippet News that I borrowed from Amanda.

It was nice to see all the Grand parents, Great Grand parents etc of todays whippets. And the owners too.!!!!!

Very slightly off topic; but I was raking around in the loft the other day and found a copy of Pauline Wilsons, (wasn't she the origional Editor of Whippet News ?), "Whippets, Rearing & Training" ! I sat and read it from cover to cover, and bored the missus by telling her "I saw that dog", "I had a pup out of that one", "I ran at that track", etc, etc, !!! Ahh... the nostaslgia came flooding back for the 60's & 70's !!!

Cheers.

 I can relate to that, every now and again when at my mums we go and take down 'the old suitcase' that holds programmes from years ago and spend hours looking back at them, she also has books with all the old members of the clubs she helped to run and the dogs that they registered, and lists of dogs that ran in opens from the clubs. I love it - ok i know i'm sad

I know it would be a massive task but has anyone thought of scanning them onto computer so that they can be stored and shared on discs? I couldnt do it all but I'd be willing to help if people liked the idea. :)

i read that book once peter got a lend of it off someone its a great read very informative

I'm currently doing something similar but it's an archive of photos from non-ped racing. Vicky had also been sourcing info about getting it online together with pedigrees (similar to the pedigree whippet archive). I did ask Chris about old photos (of which some are loaned out) as they can get damaged and such wheras if they were scanned into digital format they'd probably be useful for her and it would be nice for people to look back at a particular dogs lineage.

I know through discussions with Malcolm Clarke it's extremely time consuming and costly to host online but it would be great if something could be done.

Thats a very good idea lol erm... if i start scanning tomorrow how long will it take to scan 47 years worth of whippet news' (w00t) (w00t) OMG mammoth task. I might have a go at scanning a couple of the early ones if i can use the scanner i got sat here that is if i get into the 'suitcase and find them, problem being once i start looking at the old stuff of mums i can go missing for days :teehee:

Thanks for your offer - but

I have all the issues of Spotlight (including issue 24, dated Jan 87)

I don't expect this to be an easy job - but rather that people who leave the sport throwing their Whippet News away - if the archive is short then it would be nice if we all knew that some one had a complete set and was prepared to scan a club's result or an article from a back issue and email it to the person who was looking.

The alternative is that we loose the history of our sport.

good luck any way rob

ur right ,,,,alot off the history will be lost

if i can help ,,,,,giv us a shout,,,,,( but i only have 6 whippet news from 1971,,,,and couple from 1970 editor write was done by pauline wilson me thinkz --god i was a toddler then lol ,,,,,i think i have all to year1971--- 2000,,or 2002 ) not sure that many lol
