Hi Vicky,

The Superstars is run by the WCRA (Whippet Club Racing Association) points are awarded slightly differant for each.

I'd say the WCRA Superstars carries more weight with most racers, but I think people like both.

So opens run by both the WCRA & non WCRA are awarded top ten points?

Both events run by the WCRA and the Sporting Champs get Whippet news points, but only WCRA events (opens run by affiliated club/Champs run by the WCRA) get WCRA Superstar points.

Apart from being scored slightly differently, Superstars has a bitches league, dog league, Veteran league, Consolation League & a Veteran Consolation League. The "Superstars" are the top twelve in each league.

Top Ten is dogs & bitches in together. There is a Veteran Top Ten too. Obviously, the "Top Ten" whippets are the erm... top ten :D Its harder to get into so a lot of people think the premier league is the Top Ten but obviously some prefer Superstars.

Superstars is run by the WCRA and given to opens run by WCRA affiliated clubs. It used to be for 2 opens a year but I hear that it is now going to be for one bend and one straight per year per club - strictly enforced. I believe the idea is that as quite a few clubs can't do bends and Stanborough can't do a straight, it will mean less opens will be run for Superstars. They are hoping that will mean less opens are run and people will be forced back to club racing. Haven't heard officially yet though.

Top Ten is run by Whippet News and is for all opens. We don't have the problem with opens clashing like you do in non-peds. There is hardly ever more than one open on any where in the country on any one weekend and our open season is much shorter too (end of March to middle of October).

Is there a website where we can see the top 10 and superstars? It would be interesting to see who they are and their breeding if possible.

What will happen if a bend has to be changed into a straight because of the ground etc ie too hard?

Hi Judy,

i'm sure the WCRA rules have always stated 1 Bend & 1 Straight per club to count for points, but that clubs unable due to ground ect to run a bend (or the case of Stanborough a Straight) could get permission from the WCRA to run 2 of 1 rather than 1 of each.

it then became normal for clubs just to run what they wanted, So I don't think this is a new rule just the enforcment of the already in existance rule (I may be wronge but I don't think so)

But this rule enforcment must be the worst kept secret this year?.

I don't think this will cut down on the number of opens as clubs that can only run 1 or the other will still run 2 as they will still both count for WN (1 for Superstars) points so racers will still attend. (JMO)

You are right there Mark, but now it is going to be more strictly enforced I think i.e. no dispensations. A good thing for bend racing maybe. On the other hand if a club can't put on a bend, it still can't. The worse case senario is that it encourages clubs that aren't really up to it for whatever reason, to put on a bend.

I think that thought was what was behind a recent move to get Chris Cornish to limit the Top Ten opens too.
