Can anyone out there help me?

One of our bitches has been having a bit of bother recently with her waterworks!

Seems she is having a small bit of leakage,we've had her to the vet & he can find nothing wrong-we had originally thought it might be a minor infection-but no, she lives in the house with the other whippets but this is becoming increasingly difficult as they have the run of the house and when she lies up on the setee a small amount of wee leaks out-she does'nt seem to realise- we are using puppy pads & towels on top to absorb the spillage but this then limits where she can lie.

she is only 6yrs old! I can't put her out in the run all the time as she has always lived in.

Does anyone out there know of such a thing as incontinent pants for dogs as this would solve the problem.

Sorry to hear she's having trouble :huggles: I know they do knickers for when a dog is in season so they may do something similar for incontinence, I am sure someone will know on here

Thanks Lesley, I've got my fingers crossed someone does before my house starts to smell like a dog kennel block :(

They have season pants here I don't know if they are washable or come in packs but I know a couple of people on here have some

Is she speyed ?

The vet can also give tablets for inconitence, work well with my old speyed collie.

Pets at home sell pants and pads made by Mikki.

Yes she is speyed, do you think that's a link to this?

She actually has incredibly small bits & no teats

Has anyone else ever seen this before? as it's a new one to me

Thanks for the suggestions will see if I can get the hold of my vet too for tabs

It's something a lot of vets fail to mention when they spey bitches........... incontinence is very common after they have been done :(

could you not used childrns knickers with a hole for the tail and pop a panty liner in them if its only a smale leak think thats what i would do

I have a pair of both the Mikki pants and the ones from Constance (link as above) for my girls when they are in season as they come up to bed. I just buy the cheapest panty liners from Asda to use in them. I would think that they would work just as well for a 'leaky' spayed bitch, especially at night.

Tried babies ones earlier this afternoon on someone elses advice, unfortunately they were too baggy around the genital area so the pad was having no effect, just seemed to drive her mad, although they looked hilarious (w00t)

Went on the Dogwalker site & they have ones especially for Whipps :) so am going to order these!

Strange thing  she sleeps in ourroom in a large crate with the other 2 adult Whipps & is dry overnight  maybe they have a word with her as they don't want to get wet too!

Hi,

we use pants for when ours are in season, and we too stick small sanatry towels in them, so when they are in season they can still have the run of the house, i dont see why that wouldnt work with incontinence, we use the mikki ones. :D

hope you find something that helps.

poor thing, must get distressing at times :( . an increase in exercise can help to tighten muscles. i doubt youll manage to explain pelvic floor to her  but maybe more uphill running, which will help develope the back end, and swimming which is allround toning :luck:

She actually works so you would think she should be reasonably well toned but will try more road work maybe :) she does come out with us for x-country with the horses, will try more hill work then  save MY legs :- "

Thank-You very much for everyones advice it is much appreciated

Yes, the season pants on http://www.dogwalkers.net would do for leakage - you just put a mini-pad in them like you would if it was a season, but if the vet thinks it's incontinence then there are medicines she can have that would stop the problem. Chelsea had a problem a few years ago and they couldn't find anything, so they tried the incontinence meds, but they didn't work, they re-tested and still no infection so they were going to try another test, but before they did they gave her some antibiotics anyway - and that cleared it up - so she had a bit of an 'undergound' infection which just wasn't showing up.

Anyway - there are definitely options.

My vet prescribed propralin syrup to my leaking, speyed girl .........She has a dose daily and no more leaking  :luck:

:( Hope you get it sorted out, 05.

Does anyone know what the documented incidence is with incontinence after spaying, particularly in whippet bitches?

That was what they tried on Chels (I think it's Propalin) when they thought her problem might be an incontinence issue.

Propalin syrup is the most common prescription from vets for incontinence - however it does quite often seem to upset stomachs and not suit many bitches.

Not meaning to plug but Mixed Vegetable tablets are a licensed herbal for urinary problems, they actually are a mild diuretic which sounds madness but it ensures every time the bitch empties her bladder she does so completely so no leakage occurs in the night. Many vets use this on dogs that don't do well on the propalin or those wanting an alternative.

Our vets ........we did have her on a form of hrt first but it made her hormone levels change and caused friction in the pack
