For over a year now i've been approached by Jeff from Lurcherworld about trying to get some whippet racing on at one of the events he does with Living Heritage Country Fairs. These events go on around the country through the summer, leading to a Lurcherworld finals at the end of summer.Last year held at Belvoir Castle. Now I know straight away your concerns would be like mine that the ground lurchers run on is not fit for whippets(this is the main reason I keep telling him it can't be done)but if a good 200yd track could be created at LurcherWorld Finals, then I thought it would be a great opportunity to promote whippet racing.Ofcourse there would be the logistics of transporting traps for the event, but putting all that aside here is an oppurtunity to show our sport to a vast amount of the general public.Jeff always manages to come up with some fantastic sponsership. So what about if this was looked into by one of our governing bodies.Just an idea :D Karen P S We would proberbly be looking at 2009 so that it wouldn't interfere with this years racing, and for anyone that goes you get a great day out at a country fair aswell as race your dog

is it Jeff smith Karen Ive known him years we were in talks with him a few year ago but something happened we had a race meeting arranged for the Barnard castle country show but the show was canceled and that was that haven't seen him for ages but im sure something could be arranged

ps hope your reading this smithy :D

Yes its Jeff, Gary, had my last phone call just before xmas.He really wants this to happen, and like I said think it will be great for promoting the dogs. Will speak to him in a couple of weeks and see what he can come up with.Be prepared that if the Fed take this on then you might have to take a few folk into the main ring while somebody gives a talk on whippet racing :- " Looks like Lindas got a new job :- "

If this comes off think he'd do a great job :D and he's already met Jeff too

 u can do the talking :D Jeff's a good bloke he was one of the first therapists in this area treat our dogs very well :) sounds good like u say it would give them time to sort something if its for next year i may even give the old goat a call if i can find his number if you speak to him tell him i know an old bird thats still asking about him he will no wot i mean lol :D

Been there done that Gary  even managed to get myself roped in to doing a display for a CLA(Country Landowners Association)Game Fair :sweating: This will need someone who's been in racing along while and knows the history behind it. Will speak to Jeff sooner as I want the story behind the old bird :- " :D

im sure he wont tell u but I WILL lol :D

Same concerns as you Karen the running conditions and that the track was well fenced off as there's always some fool who lets their lurcher off at Game Fairs / Lurcher Shows.

Why not organise the event through k9 rather than one of the main bodies? Get a bit more traffic for k9 too after everything Nigel does for us. Whoever goes into the ring to do a talk can name drop the nnwrf / bwra - do some flyers with a calendar of events and contact numbers etc.

Don't see any reason why the open couldn't be called K9 Community Open Vicky, that is ofcourse if everybody was in agreement :D The reason I think a main body should take this on is because not only would a marquee be needed for weigh in etc but aside that could be a marquee just for promoting whippet racing.Clubs could make boards up with photo's,and write ups about the club and their achievments, with ofcourse contact numbers and names. The main bodies could provide literature on themselves. Here is an oppurtunity to acces a very large lurcher community, that love to run dogs for whatever reason.I think clubs could end up with new members from this,if they are willing to allow lurcher owners to come and run there dogs(which I know most are).I started off in lurchers, like some other whippet owners,I'm sure it wouldn't be long before said owners would be buying their 1st whippet  :D Karen

THE NNWRF /HIGHGATE BEND open 22nd march we have put on additional racing over 414mts for the LURCHERS tha adv is going in countrymans weekly

(w00t) I think that's a brilliant idea, i would love to watch the whippets race., and meet some new people on here. Diane
