Hello everyone , I am in need of some help........why you might ask ! well the truth is I am confused I want to buy a pup for racing, and have been offered one from a bitch who is out of Right Tricky Dickie, this means nothing to me,anyone out there heard of this dog ? I am told I should only buy from racing stock if I intend to race (and I do ....the dog not me ! )is this critical ? The sire of the offered pup is a non racer (pet)

You haven't said whether you want to race a pedigree whippet or non-ped. If you want to race in pedigree racing you need a KC registered dog. Whatever you do you can have fun irrespective of the ability of your dog - however if you realistically want a chance winning (or significantly improve your chances) at open level you'll need to buy the right dog.

You couldn't expect a pedigree racing whippet to win at a non-ped event. Likewise the chance of a show bred dog winning at a pedigree open are zero (ok - to keep everyone happy i'll say slight :huggles: ).

So, yes it's far better to buy from racing stock but not essential.
