I have been off and on this site over the last few days, and have seen discussion regarding subjects discussed, and then closed.

Can the mediators please explain what and who has the right to remove discussion

from the site, and who's measuring stick is being used as to what is acceptable discussion and what is not. Do we not think that freedom of speech is relevant on this forum, or is it considered that only certain opinions are respected.

I ask as I feel somewhat confussed, as to date I have read nothing that I consider not acceptable for this forum. If however I have missed something not acceptable I am sorry.

The subject of Breed notes and what should be deemed within the remit of the authors, I feel should be, not what the authur has a personal opinion on, as that is covered by the ' Steve Dean, Peggy Grayson headings etc ' columns. The breed note authors

in my personal opinion, should cover subjects submitted by the ' Joe public ' and I do feel that is not always the case, as no one should, again in my opinion, be gagged on this site, for doing the same as the breed note authors, voicing their personal opinion, seem to do.

The breed notes are for general information fed to the authors, and should not air the views of the authors in any way. Again in my personal opinion

Moderators decide what is acceptable by judging a post against the Board Rules and they have the ability to remove posts.

As this topic itself doesn't seem to be within those rules I think it's appropriate that it should now be closed.

Obviously as it is a moderated site, the Moderators have to decide what is acceptable. The measuring stick is the board rules - not whether they personally agree or disagree with someone's opinion. Any subject may be discussed on here as long as it is in a general way - not a personal one. That is when posts get removed. If a post or topic is removed it doesn't mean the Moderator disagrees with it or is 'on the other persons side.'  or that only certain opinions are respected. It means that it breaks the posting rules or is causing trouble in some way which the Moderators are having to deal with.

The topics about the breed notes were obviously not really about the breed notes of 16th May & 20th June this year. I read them and couldn't understand why they were worthy of such attention. I gather this is all actually about some incident that had happened previously and previous breed notes. The danger of writing about the breed notes is that it becomes about the breed note writer. If the topic had been about line-breeding generally it would have been fine but that wasn't even mentioned. When comments are made about vendetta's and bullying it becomes clear that there are other issues involved. It was pretty obvious that although nothing much had happened yet, it was going to and I didn't want to stay up all night moderating it. Remember it's (very unfairly) the Moderators that end up taking the flak - not the posters.

They aren't "gagged" on here for their opinions, as long as they post within the rules - but you are saying the breed note writer shouldn't be giving their personal opinions.

The breed notes are for general information fed to the authors, and should not air the views of the authors in  any way. Again in my personal opinion

If anyone is objecting to what the breed note writer has written in the press then they should write to the publisher.

If you want to discuss the subject mentioned (eg. line breeding) in a general way then that's fine. If you write about a particular person then that's against board rules which are there to protect everyone.

It is about the board rules without which this board would become a free for all. You have to understand that it is the Moderators who have to deal with the complaints - not the posters and so its the Moderators that have to decide what is Ok and whats not - based on the rules and how much trouble is likely to be caused. Accusing them of gagging people is so unfair. Without the Moderators this board wouldn't exist so please don't blame the Moderators.
