I know this topic sounds funny, but it's getting beyond a joke.

My male pup (7 months) has got a bad case of wind. :nuke:

The day we went to pick him up, he let one go in the car on the way home.. .. ..

I have tried different diets..

1. Different brands of tinned meat.

2. Different brands of dried food.

3. Mixed biscuits with complete & tinned food.

Nothing seems to work. I don't think a day has gone by without him having wind, and my god he could clear a room without trying.

I have read that - giving my pup yogurt after meals will help.

Does anyone have any suggestions..

Cheers

Brian

I had a dog with the same prolem and someone suggested bicarbonate of soda on each meal - only prob he didn't like the taste. Murphy always has wind if I change his food but he seems ok on Natures diet but the food depends on the pup, so althought it works for him it might not work for your pup.

Lovely isn't it (w00t)

Mine used to have bad wind, I've got them on Naturediet now and they are ok with that. Perhaps you could try that? Also, what about giving them 'proper' meat ie. something you'd eat yourself :p mine like cooked chicken and pasta and minced beef and pasta.

Another option would be to feed a raw food diet. I don't do this fully, just give them raw tripe and bones a couple of times a week for treats. The rest of the time I take the easy option :b dogs are fine on it though, Molly is a bit skinny but she always is! If you decide to have a go at raw look in the FAQ section on here for some info :luck:

Mmmmm,i'm not surprised he's got wind with the assortment of commercial crap he's been fed on (w00t)

If you get him onto a proper, natural diet, you'll find the problem will go!

Imo,raw meat is by far the best thing, but if this is not possible, you could make up a natural cooked diet for him, like chicken or mince, with plenty of veggies,& pasta or brown rice.

If you'd like more info, please pm me

Jinny has a raw diet. Mainly lamb mince with Wafcol bone meal, chicken wings, spare ribs, green tripe sometimes with grated cheese on top .............. how spoilt???

She graze feeds on Beta Active which is out for my other dogs 24/7 but only a little bit as she has never shown any interest in complete feeds or tinned.

Best thing I ever did was follow alyfn's advice re: diet. i'm maybe not as fanatical as some but Rifle has a predominantly raw food diet courtesy of this advice and his previous tummy troubles (wind, squits etc!) have become a thing of the past (unless he finds a rotten bunny carcase to chew on :x ) I'm lucky to have a really good local farm butchery for bones etc but have to say that Rifle loves his minced tripe and chicken wings.

Natural pro-biotic yogurt does restore balance in the gut. It certainly will not hurt to give him some. But i do agree with the others who suggest to feed raw, at least some of the time. :)

i do kinda half and half with the raw food thing - and it still makes a massive difference (to teeth and bums lol)

My two have raw chicken wings for breakfast, then at night they have a small amount of kibble (usually wafcal) with cooked mince, liver or oily fish.

As soon as I have my new house (with its all-important garden!) I will be adding in a lot more bones, but supervising chicken wings in the mornings so they are not sneakily taken somewhere 'relaxing' to eat is as much as I can be bothered with just now!

I dont have a local butcher to get supplies from, but the chick wings work out at only 10p each (so 2 for brekkie each is still cheaper than tinned food) and I scour the supermarket for short coded mince regularly (I can usually get enough for 2 meals for 2 dogs for 99p)

So even if your lifestyle won't accommodate full-on BARF feeding, don't think it's a case of all or nothing - small changes can work wonders

Does the above apply to us humans, my lady is forever complaining about my excess flatulence

Yes Keith, no more pasties for you - its beef bones and chick wings all the way from now on :D

Thanks everyone - for your support and advice.

I will be changing over food supply this weekend.

I did not realize that fresh meat (tripe/mince wings etc) was so readily available from a local pet supplier. I have also had some good advice with regard to supplements.

Again thank you, keep up the good advice.

Cheers from my dogs also -I'm sure they will appreciate the change.
