Work too many hours a day

Plus Willow cat isn't good with dogs ( or children, or men, or mousies basically any rodent)

I think she would scared bite a dog if one was around her

I know she's smacked one that got in the garden so hard it staggered across the garden, terror type thing not certain of breed

Well, it's something to think about for your future! You have two senior cats, one who you know would have far too much stress with a dog in the house. . But someday, it might be something you could do. Life is never static. I'd like to have a dog to hike with, but I wouldn't want all the other work that comes with a dog, especially the barking and panting. Barking can be controlled with the right training, usually, but it does seem like dogs breathe heavy a lot, that would drive me crazy lol.

I always longed for a dog but while I was working it wouldn't have been right for us. So we had cats instead!

The first cat I had, Sophie, was very under-socialised and 2 young to leave her mum.She was a lovely kitten and happy to be left while I was at work, but when I met OH she didn't take to him . She hated the childen too when they arrived and became a thoroughly grumpy cat. She died when she was about 17. We had 3 more after her, all completely different in temperament, and got a dog when I retired. We still had a cat at the time and luckily they became good friends helped by the fact that the dog was about the same size. The last cat, Scratty, died 6 months before our first dog, by which time we had another dog.

I think when we feel too old and doddery to look after dogs we might cat another cat, I do love them, but for now 2 dogs is enough. I found it quite hard work managing dogs and cats together, the worst problem was the dogs obsession with cat poo, we had to be so quick to get it before the dogs! And the cat food too, we couldn't leave any around.

Dogs seem so much more needy than cats but that's fine for us at the moment.

I do adore cats, they my favourite animal, I fell in love with greyhounds a few years ago when I volunteered at greyhound rescue, COVID stopped volunteering though and sadly greyhound rescue was never able to accept volunteers back :(
