We have to worm 5 puppies in about 2 weeks time. The dam was wormed with "panacur" from the 40th. day of pregnancy to 2 days after the birth of the pups. According to my calculations at 4 weeks old ( when the pups should weigh a little under 2.5 kilos.) each puppy will need approx. 1/2 tablet per day for 3 days. Which is the easiest way to administer the tablets? Wrapped up in soft cheese?. In the past we have always used a liquid wormer, one shot only using a syringe. The worming is in preparation for the distemper/parvovirus injections which are given here at 6 weeks.Advice welcome. Stephen

we have a litter of pups that are 3 weeks, they went to the vets at 3 days old for their dew claws to be removed. The vet advised worming with pancure paste at 2 weeks old for 3 consecutive days, the paste is easy to give to pups.

Then to worm every 2 weeks.

We do the bitch at the same time with a tablet.

i personally wouldn't give panacur i used the strongid paste on my litter and it's a single dose every two weeks none of this once a day for three days rigmarole. All my pups were reared succesfully all ten of them. My vet told me to use the strongid paste and i was more than happy with it. No one who bought a puppy from me saw any worms after they wormed for the first time.

Unless dogs are heavily infested you should not see any worms with the modern day wormers (Panacur/Drontal are the most widely used), they are dissolved in the gut. Doesn't mean to say that they haven't got worms though!!!

Stephen, for baby puppies I would always use worming liquid and not tablets. Much easier to get the correct dose and don't guess at the weight of the puppy!!
