I am sure everyone will laugh but I am now just beginning to get a little anxious.

My girl Roo, 6 months, has not eaten properly for three days now. She is usually a garbage and will eat almost anything placed in front of her. She appears keen to eat but won't. Refuses her favourites - sardines, premium minced steak etc. The only thing she has tackled are the very hard dog biscuits and some dried bread.

Being sensible I am sure it is something to do with teething, but she's been losing the odd tooth for a while now and it has not stopped her eating. She seems bright enough and happy.

Any opinioins, please.

Perhaps she cant use her knife and fork :- " (w00t) :p

Just kidding......

I dont know what to suggest, but if your worried pop off to the vet for a check up...

:luck: Good luck

I think that you need to weigh up how else she looks, coat staring, eyes dull etc and the way she is acting, abnormally quiet or giving the appearence of being in pain. Teething has never stopped any of my lot from eating. Whelping has never stopped my lot from eating before, during or after (w00t)

If in doubt give the vet a visit, Good luck hope she feels better soon

Some IG's do suffer with whats known as rumbling or howling tummies. How is she in herself?

Any sickness (just bile) or diarrohea?

If not, when she is close to you can hear any gurgling or rumbling sounds?

Loss of apetite could be a multitude of things, go by how she appears in herself.

May i ask what her breeding is?

Plain chicken & rice is always a good option but if loss of apetite persists for more than a few days i would recommend she is checked by the vet.

Good luck :luck:

Hmmm, that's what is weird. She is playful, runs, normal stools and peeing, no rumbling abdomen and no more hiccuping than usual. She appears to be interested in food but still passes. Although last night I did cook some of the mince and she ate that. Could a dog become such a fussy eating literally overnight? She did see a Vet yesterday (to check her eye - which is fine) and I mentioned my concerns and he looked at me as if I were mad - distinct possibility.

With regards to her brreding - I shall put that up later. I am not able to recite it without looking at the papers and ...Arrrgghhh - cannot find anything, now beginning to panic. Began tidying the office yesterday. I knew it was a bad move.

Without knowing whats behind her its difficult to comment.

If just a faddy eater i would stick to the tastier of things, forget the mince & instead try breast of lamb, hearts & roast chicken, some IG's can be painfully fussy whilst others are absolute hoovers.

It could even be an iminent season, a lot of IG's do come in bang on 6 months & this throws everything about.?

If you would prefer pm me her breeding.

Aha, she was 6 months on Jan 7... Well I'd better rush her down for her spey quick smart. I have no problem posting her pedigree, I've just got to find the wretched thing!!

The only parts I can remember is that she was bred by Tanya Noble of South Australia, Tascon is her kennel name and her maternal grandsire is Blanerne Im A Hero (not sure if I got the spelling right) and I think he is in New South Wales.

Well then another question, can they be speyed if they are just about to come into season or will I have to wait?

I have one of my girls here that does'nt eat just before a season,so as Nina says it could be that BUT don't want to worry you here but a few years ago I had a Flatcoat and he stopped eating just exactly as your girl has and like yours, he too showed an interest in wanting to eat but seemed unable to. As he was still drinking and appeared healthy enough in himself and pretty much normal except for the lack of eating I left it a while but when ever it was coming near five days I took him to the vet who had a feel about and decided to X-ray him.......it was a stone that was blocking his intestine and whether he knew that if he ate it would'nt be able to go anywhere or not I don't know but I was very glad that the vet had decided to X-ray him otherwise we may have lost him, as it was he lived until the ripe old age of 18 with no more problems! :D

Incidently it was a very easy op and he recovered extremely quickly and was back to normal in a matter of days, stuffing his face again!

As far as I know they have to have a season first then be speyed. But there are plenty of people on here who will clarify this.

ahhhh sheeit!!! Have already phoned Vet re her spey, will organise and x-ray at the same time. Thank you. NOw me going into overdirve ....

You will have to wait & a lot of people are of the belief it is better to let a bitch have one first season before spaying although most vets will tell you otherwise but i personally always feel it is better to let them mature fully then have them spayed say 3 months after their first season.

If she was actually bred by Tanya Noble in South Africa i assume you imported her?

If not & this was perhaps the breeding of her dam did you perhaps buy your IG from the East Anglia Region?

All i need to know is who is her Dam & Sire?

Oops just looked & seen you are actually in Australia too :b

Sorry, thought you were posting from England

maybe a good idea to run it by Tanya & see if she has any advice as you are over there & not here as i originally assumed.

Could be a season coming around as they do often go off their food, if no other symptons i would see how it goes.

Sorry meant Australia not South Africa, got it on the brain lately as my relatives live there (w00t)

Very impressed you reeled it all off

Now i know the breeding i personally would rule out a dodgy tum & look more into either a season unless of course she does have a stone or even any other foreign body trapped somewhere in the gut although 99% of the time you do often see other symptons if only lethargicness.

If the vet has checked her & seems satisfied, test her with something really tasty like hearts etc.

Does her vulva appear the slightest bit enlarged yet or puffy?

With most other things ie blockages or virus's or generally unwell i'm sure you would see some other tell tale sign?

Nah, her girlie bits still look cool. Her dam didn't come into season until 11 months. Tried her ladyship with rare Porterhouse steak (is that tasy enough) she smiled, took it in her mouth and put in down and then looked up for more! I'm stuffed. Now suspect of foreign body and have an appointment with the Vet at 11.30am this morning. Please all keep your fingers crossed for my wonderful little beastie girl.

Update on my little one. Just back from Vet and Roo has enlarged glands and a temp. Looks like she has tonsilitis!! So she has AB and electrolytes to take and the Vet said she could have icecream - I am sure she will love that.

I felt so stupid when Julie announced that pup had a temperature and enlarged glands, 'cos I was happy. Well, at least there was a reason for the subtle changes.

As soon as she is well, she's in for her op. I know it is suggested to leave them a little longer but I want to reduce, as much as possible, the chance of mammary carcinoma.

Thanks for the opinions.

Thank goodness you have an answer now :)

Fingers crossed its all ok from now on & your little one makes a speedy recovery :luck:

always a relief, finding out whats wrong, because then it can be treated. poor darling, fingers crossed :luck:

Her Ladship Roo has asked me to convey her thanks for your collecctive advice and kind wishes. She is feeling better despite having to be fed ice-cream with electrolyte sprinkled on top. She had her first proper meal today although her throat is still quite sore.

Seriously, thank you all. I cannot believe I got me knickers in such a knot over this little one. Ah well, the life of being own by an Iggy.....

Bless, so glad she is now on the mend, give her a big hug from me :huggles:
