It has happened a few times now that after a good run Taran has been slightly lame on his right foreleg later in the day, and on a couple of occasions this has continued into the following day. It is only really apparent when he first gets up after resting and soon settles. Each time he has been rested up for a few days and then has seemed totally fine ... until the next time. He is 8 1/2 mths old and has not been over exercised at all and I'm not aware of him having sustained an injury at any time. As this has been going on for a few weeks nowplan to take him to the vets to be checked over, but I have to say there really is nothing apparent in leg, shoulder or neck on the basis of a hands-on exam ... no stiffness, tenderness or heat. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar and what they might suggest re. cause and cure. Cheers

Hi Annie, he could have jared the joints in his front leg. One of mine did that, she suddenly started going lame after running around, then she'd be fine, as you say after resting up, then it would start again. I let it go for a month as I couldn't find a pain source. She eventually came sound. She was nearly 6 months old.

That's just a thought.

I have had this happen with several of mine, Tizzy being the latest!

In Tizzy's case it occurred during the "big freeze" so that adds credence to Anne's explanation of jarring.

Rest and restrict running as much as is practicable - Tizz is much better now, just slightly stiff when first getting up from sleeping

Possibly cramp but I'd still want it checking out.

Most soft tissue injuries take about 6-8 weeks to repair. Don't know how experienced your vet is but if you get no joy and your greatly concerned, I'd be inclined to seek the advice of either a greyhound vet or a specialist i.e. canine osteopath, physiotherapist etc.

Vicky my first showdog, used to have this, she would be lame for a day or so, then it would dissapear. As she was under 10 months at the time, the vet put it down to growing pains and sure enough, by the time she was 12 months old it stopped completely

I'd be inclined to restrict the dog from running for the next 6 weeks to be surer of a complete recovery
