Squirrel catcher!
Going round the wood on Roundway yesterday morning Zef suddenly did a double pounce on a steep bank and then shot down the hill into trees and after a minute or 2 started barking! (doesn't normally bark when out)
He returned a minute later with a squirrel hanging out of his mouth . He was SO pleased with himself he didn't know what to do and kept going off into the bushes presumably to sniff it in private.
I am very proud of him as he's never caught anything (apart from a dead rabbit ) before and I've gone off squirrels since they ate my Mum's swallow babies & the mum in their nest in her garage.
He carried it about for ages and altho we met several other dogs who were rather keen to nick it he was perfectly behaved and obviously keen to show off his first catch!
Thankfully after about half an hour he decided to stash it somewhere so we didn't have to take it home in the car
Clever boy!
