some asked me if i could find out the correct day for this open???.in the whippet new page 30, it say mon 18th :wacko: is it on monday or sunday??????????

i think it runs sunday now,,,,,as nnwrf pulled out,,,,,,,as they wanted more attendance,,,,,which didnt quite work out that way this year lol,, (w00t)

wonder also will there be 36 scr as it only says scratch 175 yards,hopefully if mr sheenes leg is ok he races 36 scr but not yd lb as he is off his wrong side (right hand runner). :thumbsup:

The NNWRF pulled out as you put it because we considered there was more than enough racing on with the Scottish Champs Sat, NNWRF Sun, George Haggart Mon, midweek charity open leading upto the big event the SCOTTISH DERBY

The George Haggart Memorial open was never held in this 10 days before in 2008 it was held 9th Aug, not sure when or if it was held prior but it wasn't within the 10 days, after discussion with Sec Arthur Cook we kept with our descision to move it this year and discuss it for the future whilst we are up there in July

The NNWRF were happy to step aside with no bad feeling after all it is a Scottish open and should be part of the event,

As you quite rightly state the NNWRF cushti open held on Mon after champs this year was poorly attended as expected partly due to the late change of venue whereas the racing and camping were'nt together, it also proves 3 days racing on the trot isn't really wanted let alone leading up to such a major event as the SCOTTISH DERBY

To answer the original question the George Haggart will now be ran on the Sunday. Hopefully we will get as good attendance as last year

i know it hard holding opens,,,,,ingore me when i say iam drunk,,,repling to a toipic,, :lol: :lol: ,,,,,,,,,it just there nothing up here unless we travel 200 miles,,,,,thats a subject i will take up with club,,,,opens in july nothing rest off the year not really that good enough to hold on to members,,,,,,somthing has to change,every club should be given a fair crack at bwra or nnwrf champs,,,,if they can supply the ground / camping / entertainment,,,,( just a thought ),,,,, :thumbsup: :thumbsup: ,,,,,,,

Robert, doesnt matter when we put opens on at kirkcaldy very few ppl come up just for the day. I know uve only been back racing for 4 years but u must have noticed this. You seem to be stuck in the past, i know when u raced before opens were better attended up here but we had a lot more scottish racers than we do now. Its not worth the expense to buy numerous trophies for opens when no one comes.

As for clubs losing memebers, i think club everywhere are going thro this at the moment even over the border where clubs and opens are better attended.

Im not really sure what you expect us to do tbh, the logical thing to me would be have the opens when u know ppl will come ie the 10 day event we have in july, yeah this may be the only time we have opens but they are well attended and we get more and more coming every year up to the derby, would be a massive leap backwards if we was to make this a weekend event and have Scottish Champs as just another open.

We decided the best thing to do was have our BWRA events at East Ayreshire as a lot more ppl will go there for the day as its not as far as kirkcaldy, yeah it may be 3 hours for us but it is the best interest of whippet racing up in Scotland, something we are trying to keep alive and hopefully on the increase.

If you have any suggestions how we can improve Scottish whippet racing by our own means then bring them up at the club.
