I came on here 4 and a bit years ago and it was a great forum,And helped me loads. I used to put pics of Eric on all the time and news of our adventures! :teehee: And got lots of friends on here like Lesley,Janimal,Beaker, posh totty.... But like them i rarely post or even come on here that much now,Sad i know.

I have had "bitching" but it has certainly got worse and with facebook for everybody these days,i think that alone has killed it off and other types of forums.I go on facebook and spend to much time as it is on there without going on forums.

I hope k9 keeps going and turns into what it used to be.But i just observe now and again.

Must admit I can go for weeks without coming on here when I used to have a nosey at least once a day. I just got fed up with trying to scrutinise my own posts and pictures before I posted, looking for things that people could take exception to e.g post a pic of a whippet in a harness and you get all kinds of 'advice' that you didn't ask for, ask an innocent question about food and the RAW brigade would wade in (no offence, I know lots of you are quiet advocates of RAW and that's fab but some people would have you hung for feeding complete food....) I think when people have passions (dogs) then they can become very opinionated and also the relative anonymity of a forum allows people to be quite bolshy. I just think we forgot our manners somewhere along the way.

I'm friends with a lot of people from here on facebook, but obviously not knowing real names there are some who I would have things in common with on here who I have now lost contact with which is quite a shame. I also agree with Gillian that it is easier to post pics on facebook - I only ever used photobucket for K9 so it became a bit of a palaver to have to upload things to pb before I could get them on here. Also agree with other people, though, that it was nice to have a dedicated whippet audience on here as I'm sure some of my fb mates get VERY fed up at the amount of dog related posts and pics I put on!

Another thing, the FAQs section has loads of links which now don't work, so it became harder and harder to search for advice.

I stopped posting as I got fed up of spending time putting photos on and telling people my news and getting no replies. I comment occasionally on other peoples threads but I don't come on here anywere near as often as I used to do.

I go onto face book but I struggle on there not really knowing who people are when they are on here.

I to have had birthdays but not bothered putting them on here the twins were 3 in april and Freyja became a veteran in may.

Belated happirthday to Griff and Fin

K9 was the very first forum I joined ,and posted everyday. I remember one day my PC went down and I didint know what to do with myself cos I could nt get on to K9. I remember when I was top poster :teehee:

Its given me friends all over the world , some ive met and some yet to meet.

I think lots have gone over to FB , but I cant seem to get on with it , must be my age. lol .

TWF for me has got too `clicky ` All mates just congratualting each other and other winners dont get a mention. Mine have had birthdays too , and Ive not put them on, Harvee, India and Libbee all had them in May.

Anyone wanting advice , please put it on still . or if any one wishes they can Pm me , If I cant help I will find someone who can.

Good to see you on here Jackie. You have such a wealth of knowledge - so please carry on posting and putting on photos of your gorgeous whippets. One of my favourite photos is the one of your 'crew' of 10 (I think) all on the sofa together. :huggles: :huggles:

It is such a pity if newcomers on here are not able to get advice and information from people like yourself who have been in the breed for such a long time.

i agree with you Sarah. And thankyou Jackie may have to take you up on that some day

My personal opinion is that the introduction of the FAQ's section started the decline of k9, as you had people ask a question and they had a link posted on to their topic being told this questions already been asked before... click on this link ..... It was then like end of topic ..... Also wether you race, show, course or work your dogs we all know the people in our chosen "sport", so as time went on there was over spills of what happend in our world of Whippets and people started to try and belittle those people and their posts ...... I'm no angel as am on a 70% warn, but most of that came from standing up for a friend who was reguarly and openly torn apart on the peddie racing forum ...... I like Jaxs used to be one of the top posters here, but now if I see a question I can answer I PM the poster as it saves any hassel of being torn apart ...... :))

I can understand your very valid reasons for not posting on K9 - but I do miss seeing your photos!!

It is such a pity that personal grievances spill over onto the forum. I think they should be aired elsewhere. We can all have our own opinions, but it doesn't have to become personal. For example, I personally don't like seeing dogs hunting and killing, so choose not to look at the working section. However, I wouldn't make any unpleasant comments to those who do hunt.

K9 was a great place for sharing photos, knowledge and information, and welcoming newcomers. Although I don't show, race or work my dogs, I always enjoyed reading the showing and racing threads. It's my way of having contact with other whippet lovers.

It is lovely to see an increase in the number of photos being posted on k9 again.

I sometimes log into TWF but it is not the same somehow.

Glad to hear that some people only 'lurk' nowadays but have not gone altogether.

It is great to know that if help is needed, it will be offered or is only a PM away.

For me k9 is still the best

  Well said Eve.

I log in to TWF too, but don't feel it is the same.

Hopefully the lurkers will return. :) :)

I go on TWF as I have more friends on there. I think! It is clicky I agree, there is a hard core who keep saying well done to each other!!! Ducking for cover! I have decided not to post my pups wins on there any more as the response is cool!

I enjoyed K9 when I first joined but a group decided I was persona non grata so just look and hardly ever post for fear of being jumped on.

Time for people to get K9 back to what it used to be, show, race etc.

I still lurk every day :clown: ... and I have several non dog friends on facebook, so dont post that much there ;)

I still pop in here briefly most days, must be a nostalgia thing...but don't trust Photobucket anymore, so don't post photos or start topics as a result.

I also lost Stanley a few months ago (as FB friends will know) and Fred is quite old and senile these days, so don't have quite so much to contribute. I now have a new addition, another mini schnauzer, so maybe I'll try and post some photos via a different web service provider...possibly flickr?

I must admit I now prefer the privacy of FB (there were some trouble-makers on here hell bent on vilifying certain members or hell bent on getting their views across without considering if they were causing offence, and you never quite know who's reading the posts)...but a few photos on here now and then wouldn't go amiss I guess.

cant the moderators step on bad posts sooner if they see people are having a spat?
unfortunatley mods are dammed if they do and dammed if they dont, we try to allow freedom of speech but sometimes its a fine line between the two and what a person involved or their freinds may see as unacetable to others not in the know it may seem like genuine post?.
You're right there Mark - either way, you can't win and you're bound to upset/offend someone. I don't mind if people have a differing opinion to mine (honestly !!) but what I don't like to when people start to get nastly and basically start using threatening language to try and intimidate people.

Alot of the nastyness comes from people who choose to hide behind anonymous profiles.

I do still come on here often to have a read and when i've been to shows - I put up the pics I take, however, it is a very long winded way of putting pics on here and far easier on Facebook.

I still think this is a great site and will continue to make my contributions.

Sorry to hear about Fred, Wilma is still going strong bless her, I see her occasionally at local companion shows.

I have to agree that Facebook is the weapon of choice these days and like Mark said things said on there would not be tolerated on here or the TWF.

It must get very boring slagging off people who dont even know you are doing it as you are not one of their "friends".

The good thing about facebook is it encompasses all your friends form all walks of your life so you are not just focused on dogs.

K9 was the first forum I joined many years ago and we had an active Iggie section and a lot of sound advice was ignored or scorned by those who claimed to know better, so Iggie people left and wont return which is a shame.

unfortunatly a lot post on facebook as they can set up private sites and slag/insult and generaly post anything they like which most of them wouldnt say to the people concerned to their faces, we were recently invited to join a very nasty site on facebook which we removed ourselves from, stuff that wouldnt be allowed on k9.

some people just love to stir the shit up mark, we know who they are and what they are trying to do, i heard all about that hate campaign that was set up on facebook, we just put it down to where it came from.. sad sad people.

On facebook you chose your friends and block those you don't want to have anything to do with. You can delete those you no longer want as friends.

It's sad, but you do need protection from the cyber bullies.
