Irish Game & Country Fair - Final Racing Classes

Racing at the Irish Game & Country Fair Birr Saturday 27th August

starting at 12.30 with Terrier Racing organised by the Roscrea Working Dog Club contact Shane Lee 00353 863296667.

1. Terriers

2. KC Registered Whippet – must show registration papers.

3. Un Reg Whippet

If the owners of the winning whippets in each class want to race against each other for top whippet I will put up a tankard for the winner.

4. Novice Lurcher any size any age over 10 months. This is confined to lurchers that have not won a race. This is part of a new competition for which other shows will be offered qualifiers. There will be a final for all ‘Novice Race qualifiers’ at Shanes Castle on 7th July 2012 for the Philip Lawton Director’s Trophy. Winner receives two tickets for Shanes Castle Game Fair in 2012.

5. Special Under 24” Lurcher Race.

6& 7. Master Mc Grath Challenge Qualifying Races – Under 23” and Over 23” Lurcher Races.

Both Over 23” Champion and Over 23” Champions to qualify for the final of the 2nd Annual Master Mc Grath Challenge at the Shanes Castle Fair 7th July 2012. Winners receive Master Mc Grath Caps; limited edition qualifying Scrolls and Redmills Dog Food plus subscription to Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine plus two tickets to Shanes Castle Fair in 2012.

Prizes : €50 for the winner of each of the 7 races plus Trophy. Rosettes for 1st and Second sponsored by Redmills, Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine , Premier Event Catering and Countryside Alliance Ireland.

There will also be a demonstration by the Roscrea Club of racing from traps.

Entry fees for all show and racing classes : €3 per entry.

Normal Prices are : Family €35 Adult €15 Child between 5 -15 €5. This includes free parking and free programme and of course Lord & Lady Rosse have very kindly opened their Museum and world famous gardens ( Normally costing €25 family;€9 adult and €5 child) to the public over the time of the Fair and these additional attractions are included within the cost of the Fair admission tickets.

Thanks Josh - this is the result of discussions with and suggestions from a lot of people. Various parts of this proposed programme will be further developed over our series of shows in 2012.

just may i add 1 small think ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL DOGS MUST BE MUZZLED for racing :thumbsup: no muzzle no race best of :luck:
 
OMG yous have jumped a bit trying to run seven races , when at shanes it took the whole day to run three :clown: good luck :luck: to all whos attending make sure you take a tent for I would say ur in for a long day -_- -_-

why do we need to see a demonstration off dogs running from traps????? :wacko:

Ian,

We have a larger team in place and with a non mechanical lure! We are kicking off with the terrier racing at 12.30 so hope to start the other racing before 1.00. The Roscrea Club are confident they can do it and I have confidence in them to do it. If it runs later than 6.30 I'll buy you a pint and if it finishes before 6.30 you can set me up one on Sunday!

Be sure to widely publicise the whippet registration papers requirement or people are likely to be caught out with no documents even if their whippets are kc registered

Shane uses a manually operated lure which he claims is less prone to breaking down and more sensitively controlled.

We will be publicising the splitting of the whippet classes.

PLEASE NOTE that the final date for ordering CONCESSION TICKETS is MONDAY 15th August. Any orders received after this may not be dealt with.
