Hi folks

I'm interested in finding out what sort of distances are achieved in long jump competitions?? The reason being we were walking on the beach yesterday with our daughter & her shepherd who loves water which our 13 month lurcher doesn't, the shepherd was running through the 9 inch deep streams that run on this beach to retrieve the ball but our lurcher was leaping them with ease and achieving what seemed to us as quite a considerable distance, at one point she was just standing the other side of one of these streams when she took a standing leap across roughly 15 - 16 feet, is this a normal feat for a lurcher or is she showing some talent as a long jumper?

Hi Willows, this our Midge in the 90s doing the long jump, her longest jump was 22 1/2 feet, she also won chatsworth 3 consecutive years running.

Thats a good distance for the 1st time Willows, she's definately got talent

Hi Milly

Thanks for your reply, Chatsworth champion 3 years on the trot that some feat well done to midge.

The 15-16 foot jump was without any form of run up, she was just standing there and took off like an antelope which is why I asked the question, a lot of dogs could make that jump with a run up but to do it from standing amazed me.

Also Mark Bricks dog Kat was a very good long jumper  infact Kat was a bloody good alrounder  and TOMTHUMB'S dog was ;)
